    1869:
Writer Felix Salten is born Siegmund Salzmann in Hungary. His 1926 book "Bambi" will be made into an animated feature by Disney. (The idea came to Salten while on vacation in the Alps after being charmed by the wildlife there. He based the name, Bambi, on the Italian word "bambino", meaning baby.) Another of his stories The Hound of Florence, a fantasy about a man who turns into a dog was the inspiration for Disney's 1959 film The Shaggy Dog.

    1976:
Disneyland's 'America on Parade' has its final run.

    1984:
Morocco, the first new World Showcase pavilion to be added to the original roster, opens at EPCOT.

    1996:
At Disneyland Paris, a major fire damages portions of the Sequoia Lodge hotel at 6:45 a.m., forcing hundreds of groggy guests to flee. Thankfully, most guests are already awake ready for the park's Saturday opening, but flee with little more than their pajamas on, so Disney officials give them a free spending spree in the park's shops to re-clothe themselves. The blaze is extinguished in three hours, but guts much of the roof of one section, and damages dozens of rooms.

Awww...Toad is still alive and well in Disneyland. Was there anything significantly different between the CA and FL versions? I never got to ride the FL version of Mr. Toad, only the DL version.

Yes, it was a sad day.

I wish I could help you on that one, but I the last time I was at DL was in 1955. I can barely remember being there after 49 years.

The last two times we rode Mr. T at WDW it broke down and were stuck with the door swinging back and forth, and then at the end with the loco coming our way.
