    Writer, humorist, actor, and National Radio Hall of Famer Jean Shepherd -the voice of the Father in Disney's Carousel of Progress attraction – is born in South Chicago, Illinois.

    1951:
    Disney's animated Alice in Wonderland has its world premiere in England, at London's Leicester Square Theatre. It will be released in the U.S. two days later. It is the thirteenth animated feature in the Disney animated features canon.

    1959:
    Actor Kevin Spacey, who supplies the voice of Hopper in Disney/Pixar's 1998 A Bug's Life, is born in South Orange, New Jersey.

    1916:
    Actor Keenan Wynn (son of legendary comic Ed Wynn) whose Disney credits include the 1976 The Shaggy D.A., the 1974 Herbie Rides Again, the 1961 The Absent Minded Professor, and the 1963 Son of Flubber is born in New York City.

    1945:
    Disney's Pluto cartoon Canine Casanova, directed by Charles A. Nichols,
    is released. Pluto (voiced by Pinto Colvig) is smitten with Dinah the
    dachshund ... but unfortunately she ignores him.

    1956:
    The Disney short In the Bag, featuring Humphrey the Bear and Ranger Audubon J. Woodlore, is released. It is the second of only two cartoons to headline the characters of Humphrey and Ranger Woodlore (both of whom had appeared in a number of Donald Duck shorts). In the Bag is also one of only a few CinemaScope cartoon shorts to be produced by Disney.

    1962:
    The Firehouse Five Plus Two (a spare-time musical group made up of writers, animators, producers and directors at the Walt Disney Studios) are recorded live at The Golden Horseshoe in Disneyland. Their performance the following day will also be recorded and eventually be released on Good Time Jazz Records.

    1931:
    Disney's Silly Symphony cartoon The Cat's Out, directed by Wilfred Jackson, is
    released. The plot centers around a cat who after being struck on the head
    begins hallucinating all sorts of creepy things!

    1940:
    Actor Philip Proctor, the voice of Meltdown, the fat alien, in Treasure Planet, is born in Goshen, Indiana. His Disney credits also includeMonsters, Inc., Aladdin, Toy Story, Toy Story 2, A Bug's Life, and The Lion King.

    1951:
    Walt Disney's 13th animated film Alice in Wonderland is released in U.S. theaters by RKO Radio Pictures, two days after its London premiere. Kathryn Beaumont, the voice of Alice, will later narrate the Alice attraction at Disneyland. Alice features the animation of Walt's "Nine Old Men." Also released is the True-Life Adventure Nature's Half Acre.

    1987:
    Disney's experimental computer animated film Oilspot and Lipstick is released at a computer convention in Anaheim, California.

    1922:
    The first Laugh-O-Gram cartoon Little Red Riding Hood is released. A silent black & white short, it is written, produced, and directed by Walt Disney and animated by Rudolph Ising. It is considered Walt's first full-length short cartoon as prior to this only minute-long cartoons have been produced.

    1941:
    Actor David Warner, who appears in Disney's 1982 Tron as Ed Dillinger & Sark, and the Voice of Master Control Program, is born in Manchester, England. He's also the narrator for both Pooh's Grand Adventure: The Search for Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh: A Valentine for You.

    1957:
    Time magazine runs "How To Make A Buck" - an article about Walt Disney's success.

    2000:
    To mark the first anniversary of the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, Walt Disney World takes 80 Corvettes and forms the signature guitar in the Disney-MGM Studios parking lot.

    1907:
    Writer and actor Roy Williams - Roy, the "Big Mooseketeer" on TV's The Mickey Mouse Club - is born in Coleville, Washington. His writing credits for Disney include such animated classics as Saludos Amigos, The Three Caballeros, Cured Duck, Donald's Double Trouble, and Make Mine Music.

    1956:
    At Disneyland, the Mineral Hall Exhibit opens.

    1973:
    TIME magazine runs the article
    "Disney After Walt Is a Family Affair" in this week's issue.

    1999:
    Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, officially opens to all guests as part of the largest property-wide expansion in Disney World history. The indoor roller coaster features a high-speed launch of 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds, three inversions, rock-concert lighting and a specially created Aerosmith soundtrack blasting from 120 on board speakers in each coaster train - all firsts for a Disney World attraction.

    Disney files a lawsuit against the United Biscuit Company of America,
    Sawyer Biscuit Company, and the Chicago Carton Company. The case
    involves the unauthorized use of Disney characters for animal crackers.

    1960:
    At Disneyland, the Sunkist Citrus House opens on Main Street.

    1967:
    Animator Tom Bancroft is born. After studying at the California Institute of Arts, he will move to Florida to work for Walt Disney Feature Animation at the Disney/MGM Studios. Over the next 12 years Bancroft will work on such features as The Rescuers Down Under, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Mulan, and Tarzan.

    The second Laugh-O-Gram black & white silent cartoon The Four Musicians of Bremen (adapted from a fairy tale first recorded by the Brothers Grimm) is released. Walt Disney has written, directed, produced, and co-animated (along with Rudolph Ising) the short.

    1933:
    Comedic actor, chef & author Dom DeLuise is born in Brooklyn, New York. His Disney credits include the animated TV series Hercules (as the voice of Bacchus) and the animated feature Oliver & Company (as the voice of Fagin).

    1953:
    Disney releases the Donald Duck short The New Neighbor. Donald (voiced by Clarence Nash) moves into a new home, only to discovers his neighbor is a slob, a mooch, and has an out-of-control dog!

    Voice actor, writer and producer Bill Scott is born William John Scott in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His Disney credits include George of the Jungle 2 and The Gummi Bears.

    2001:
    D ick Van Dyke, songwriter Richard Sherman, and Julie Andrews rededicate Soundstage 2 in Burbank, California, to The Julie Andrews Stage. Andrews filmed Disney's Mary Poppins and The Princess Diaries at this famous location.

    Actress Jean Hagen - Freeda Daniels in Disney's 1959 The Shaggy Dog - is born in Chicago, Illinois.

    1955:
    The 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea Exhibit opens at Disneyland. The walk-through exhibit, located in Tomorrowland, features props and set pieces from the 1954 Disney release 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

    1960:
    Eight-year-old Raymond Sleeper from Hawaii becomes the 10-millionth passenger to ride Disneyland's train. He takes his historic ride along with Walt Disney himself!

    1901:
    Jazz trumpeter Louis Armstrong is born in New Orleans, Louisiana. (Although Armstrong himself often cited his birthday as July 4, 1900, his baptismal records show that he was born on this day.) In the mid 1960s he will record an album of Disney music, perform at Disneyland, and appear on Disney-related television shows.

    1995:
    Ground is broken for Disney's newest Florida theme park - Animal Kingdom.

    1930:
    Neil Armstrong, the first human to step foot on the moon, is born in Wapakoneta, Ohio. In July 2005 he will take part in the re-opening of Disneyland's Space Mountain.

    1967:
    Disneyland's attraction Adventure Thru Inner Space opens in Tomorrowland. Guests are transported through a microscope where they are shrunken down and sent off to explore the inside of an atom. It features the voice of Paul Frees and the song "Miracles from Molecules" written by the Sherman Brothers. The attraction is the first to use the OmniMover system - called Atomobiles - to transport guests.

    1961:
    The Flying Saucers attraction opens in Disneyland's Tomorrowland. Guests control the crafts, which float on powerful jetsof air, by leaning to one side or the other. Due to technical problems and the fact that the huge air compressors need constant repair, the attraction will close after only 5 years in operation.

    2003:
    Disney's Freaky Friday, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, opens in theaters.
