Paul Collins - the voice of John in the 1953 Disney classic Peter Pan - is born in London, England.

Writer, humorist, actor, and National Radio Hall of Famer Jean Shepherd - the voice
of the Father in Disney's Carousel of Progress attraction - is born in Chicago, Illinois.

1959:
Actor Kevin Spacey, who supplies the voice of Hopper in Disney/Pixar's 1998 A Bug's Life, is born in South Orange, New Jersey.

Actor Keenan Wynn, whose Disney credits include the 1976 The Shaggy D.A., the 1974 Herbie Rides Again, the 1961 The Absent Minded Professor, and the 1963 Son of Flubber is born in New York City.

1945:
Disney's Pluto cartoon Canine Casanova, is released. Pluto is smitten with Dinah the dachshund ... but unfortunately she ignores him.

Actor Philip Proctor, the voice of Meltdown, the fat alien, in Treasure Planet, is born in Goshen, Indiana. His Disney credits also include Aladdin, and The Lion King.

1951:
Walt Disney's 13th animated film Alice in Wonderland is released in U.S. theaters by RKO Radio Pictures, two days after its London premiere.

1989:
Touchstone Pictures releases the comedy Turner & Hooch starring Tom Hanks.

1922:
The first Laugh-O-Gram cartoon Little Red Riding Hood is released. A silent black & white short, it is written, produced, and directed by Walt Disney and animated by Rudolph Ising. It is considered Walt's first full-length short cartoon as prior to this only minute-long cartoons have been produced.

1966:
Disney's live-action comedy feature film Lt. Robinson Crusoe, U.S.N. - starring D ick Van Dyke and Nancy Kwan - is generally released in the U.S. A comedic twist on Daniel Defoe's classic novel Robinson Crusoe, **** Van Dyke plays a U.S. Navy pilot who becomes a castaway on a tropical island.

1907:
Disney Legend Roy Williams, Roy, the "Big Mooseketeer" on TV's Mickey Mouse Club, is born in Coleville, Washington.

1929:
Disney's ninth Mickey Mouse short The Karnival Kid is released. It features Mickey speaking his very first words: "Hot dogs!".

1960:
At Disneyland, the Sunkist Citrus House opens on Main Street.

The second Laugh-O-Gram black & white silent cartoon The Four Musicians of
Bremen (adapted from a fairy tale first recorded by the Brothers Grimm) is released.

1933:
Comedic actor, chef & author Dom DeLuise is born in Brooklyn, New York. His Disney credits include the animated TV series Hercules (Bacchus) and the animated feature Oliver & Company (Fagin).

Production begins on Disney's newest animated feature Lilo and Stitch.

1934:
Walt and Lillian Disney sail for Hawaii from Los Angeles aboard the Matson liner Lurline. It will be their first visit to the islands.

1960:
Disney's documentary Jungle Cat - narrated by Winston Hibler - is released. The film, written and directed by James Algar, chronicles the life of a female spotted jaguar in the South American jungle.

1938:
Walt and Roy Disney place a $10,000 deposit on a 51-acre property on Buena Vista Street in Burbank, California. They will use this land to build a new studio.

2005:
The Walt Disney Company announces it will plege $2.5 million to aid relief and rebuilding in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Disney Editions releases Ridley Pearson's The Kingdom Keepers. The suspense thriller is about five teenagers who end up inside Disney World after dark, and must solve a riddle in order to save the park from the dark side of Walt Disney's imagination.
