    1934:
    Disney's Mickey Mouse cartoon The Dognapper is released.

    1956:
    The first of eight installments of "My Dad, Walt Disney," by Diane Disney Miller (as told to writer Pete Martin) appears in the Saturday Evening Post.

    1997:
    Cruise Terminal 8, the Disney Cruise Line Terminal, is dedicated in Florida. The $27 million, 70,000-square-foot facility is Port Canaveral's third ultra-modern mega-ship terminal, and will be the exclusive home of Disney Cruise Line's first two ships, the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder.

    2002:
    Treasure Planet has its premiere. It will be generally released ten days later.

    2003:
    It is reported that Finding Nemo has sold an industry leading 15 million DVDs in less than two weeks at retail stores.

    November 18

    1918:
    A young Walt Disney sails aboard the SS Vaubin to France, as a Red Cross volunteer.

    1928:
    Mickey Mouse stars in Steamboat Willie, the first commercially successful animated cartoon to use synchronized sound. The film debuts as a sneak preview at the Colony Theatre (located at Broadway & 53rd Street) in New York City. The cartoon is co-directed by Walt and Ub Iwerks, it features the first appearance of Minnie Mouse. (Despite the fact that this is not the first Mickey cartoon made or released, it is still considered Mickey Mouse's true debut.)

    1978:
    A commemorative plaque is installed at the Broadway Theater (site of the former Colony Theater) in New York, marking the 50th anniversary of the premiere of Steamboat Willie.

    1988:
    Disney's 27th animated feature Oliver & Company is released in U.S. theaters. This film features the voices of 12-year-old Joey Lawrence, singer-songwriter Billy Joel, comic-actor Cheech Marin, and funny-man Dom DeLuise. Six supervising animators and a team of over 300 artists and technicians worked for over two and a half years to create this hand-drawn feature film.

    1993:
    The "Partner's Statue" Dedication is held at Disneyland. Jack Lindquist, the President of Disneyland (who officially retires this same day) officiates the ceremony which includes Roy Disney unveiling the statue of Walt and Mickey Mouse it was sculpted by Blaine Gibson.

    2003:
    The Magic Kingdom in Florida unveils 75 6-foot tall statues of Mickey Mouse in honor of his 75th birthday.

    Miss Marion arrives in Edison, New Jersey. Proud parents AKQJ10 and Jasmine rejoice!

    1932:
    Disney's Silly Symphony cartoon Babes in the Woods (based on the Hansel and Gretel story) is released.

    1941:
    The cartoon Thrifty Pigs ,made for the National Film Board of Canada, is released.

    1971:
    Disneys Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground opens.

    1978:
    A 90-minute television show airs on The Wonderful World of Disney to celebrate Mickey Mouse's 50th birthday. Guest appearances include Gerald Ford, Billy Graham, Lawrence Welk, Willie Nelson, Gene Kelly, Roy Rogers & Dale Evans, Edgar Bergen, Jodie Foster, Goldie Hawn, Eva Gabor, Anne Bancroft, Jo Anne Worley, Johnny Carson and Burt Reynolds.

    1990:
    Disney's Beach Club Resort opens. This deluxe Disney property takes after a luxurious Victorian Cape Cod Resort.

    1999:
    FastPass is first used in Disneyland at It's A Small World.

    Disney adds a $10 bill with Minnie on it to their Disney Dollars (originally issued two years earlier).

    1993:
    The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame Plaza opens in the Disney-MGM Park.

    Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame is released in France

    1952:
    The Mickey Mouse cartoon Pluto's Christmas Tree is released.

    1994:
    The Timekeeper (a CircleVision 360 film) opens in Disney World's Tomorrowland, replacing America the Beautiful.

    2001:
    Disney World unveils its holiday lights and decorations with The Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights at Disney-MGM Studios. (Arkansas businessman Jennings Osborne received worldwide attention when he created the luminous light show for his daughter more than a decade ago.) The glowing bulbs light Residential Street, Washington Square and New York Street in merry holiday displays that include 170 flying angels, two 30-foot-tall carousels, illuminated trees, and 50 lighted Mickey Mouse figures.

    November 22


    1963:
    Walt Disney and a group of associates fly over the coast of Florida aboard a Grumman Gulfstream I (Disney's private corporate plane). The aerial view confirms Walt's doubts about building a theme park by the ocean. They travel inland over Orlando, circling the forests and swamps. This is followed with a stop in New Orleans to refuel for the trip back to Burbank, California. It is during the stop in New Orleans that they learn of U.S. President Kennedy's assassination in Texas.

    1980:
    Although it has officially been running since October 1st, Disney World's Big Thunder Mountain has its Grand Opening.

    1991:
    The 30th Disney animated feature film, Beauty and the Beast is generally released in U.S. theaters.

    1995:
    The Disney/Pixar computer animated feature film, Toy Story is released.

    1999:
    Bob Hope appears at Disneyland to inaugurate a new tradition, the first official lighting of the holiday lights at the park.

    2002:
    Disney underwrites one hundred percent of the cost for this year's annual Toys for Tots National Kickoff Luncheon for the organization's corporate sponsors and military supporters, in Washington, D.C. (Disney has been a Toys for Tots supporter since 1947.)

    1951:
    Disney's Goofy short No Smoking is released.

    1998:
    Kona Cafe, a restaurant located in Disney World's Polynesian Resort, opens for business.

    2000:
    Thanksgiving Day:
    A new Mickey Mouse balloon makes its debut leading the Thanksgiving Day parade down Broadway in New York City. Bandleader Mickey, all decked out in his classic red and gold band uniform with gold epaulets and buttons, soars into the sky as he keeps beat with his baton. His return to the New York parade comes after an eighteen-year hiatus.
    Mickey first appeared in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in 1934 and then from 1971 until 1982.


    2003:
    Disney's Haunted Mansionhas its world premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in California.

    November 24

    1941:
    After suffering a strike and declining revenue because of the war in Europe, Walt Disney's studio is in trouble. Disney animator Ward Kimball notes in his diary for this day: "100 layoffs announced. Studio personnel from 1600 down to 300. Geez, Is this the writing on the wall?" (Disney will save itself by doing defense films for the army and with the post-war release of Cinderella will be back on top.)

    1950:
    The Disney cartoon Morris, the Midget Moose is released.

    1994:
    At Disney's EPCOT, "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience," a multi-media 3-D movie experience, opens, replacing Captain EO at the Journey into Imagination pavilion.

    2000:
    Disney's feature film, 102 Dalmatians is generally released.

    2003:
    The Orlando Sentinel reports that Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa's Victoria & Alberts has been named Central Florida's only AAA five-diamond restaurant.

    2004:
    The Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights returns to Disney-MGM Studios for the 2004 holiday season.

    1933:
    Disney's Mickey Mouse cartoon Giantland is released. It is a forerunner to the Mickey and the Beanstalk segment of "Fun and Fancy Free."

    1938:
    Disney's Ferdinand the Bull is released.

    1955:
    Thanksgiving Day:
    The Mickey Mouse Club Circus opens as the first major addition to Disneyland.

    1971:
    "America the Beautiful," a CircleVision 360 film, debuts in Disney World's Tomorrowland.

    1992:
    The 31st Disney animated film, Aladdin is generally released in U.S. theaters.

    1996:
    Disneyland's Main Street Electrical Parade comes to an end. It is estimated that some 75 million people have marveled at the bright lights of the parade since its introduction in 1972.

    1998:
    A Bug's Life is generally released.. The plot of the film
    is loosely based on Aesop's fable "The Ants and the Grasshopper."

    2000:
    The New York Post reports that the Disney Company will stop licensing cell phone covers featuring Disney characters due to the lack of information about health risks related to cell phone use especially among young children.

    1937:
    Disney's Pluto cartoon Pluto's Quin-Puplets is released.

    1938:
    Tragedy strikes when Walt's mother, Flora Disney, dies of asphyxiation caused by a defective furnace in the house in Los Angeles that Walt and Roy had built for their parents less than a month earlier. She is 70 years old.

    1987:
    Tokyo Disneyland welcomes its 50-millionth guest.

    2001:
    The Walt Disney Company reiterates its commitment to support U.S. troops at home and abroad, and assist in the nation's relief and rebuilding programs. Disney has become a USO World Sponsor providing more than $1 million in financial aid.

    2003:
    The Haunted Mansion opens in theaters. The movie stars Eddie Murphy as real estate agent Jim Evers.

    2004:
    A popular Walt Disney World holiday event now in its 33rd year, the Candlelight Processional is performed at Epcot for the first time this season as Holidays Around the World kicks off.

    1993:
    Disney's stage show Beauty and the Beast is previewed at the Music Hall Theatre in Houston, Texas.

    1996:
    Disney's live-action 101 Dalmatians is generally released and breaks the record for the biggest Thanksgiving opening ever.

    2002:
    Disney officially releases the animated Treasure Planet on this Thanksgiving Eve. Loosley based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel "Treasure Island," the film has the distinction of being the first to open in wide release, and IMAX theaters on the same date.

    1927:
    Disney's Oswald the Lucky Rabbit black & white short The Banker's Daughter is released.

    1944:
    Walt Disney writes a birthday letter to his younger sister Ruth. He writes her about his next feature-length release called The Three Caballeros. Along with his birthday wishes is a check because he "hasn't the slightest idea what to send."

    1974:
    The Star Jets open for business in Disney World's Tomorrowland. The new attraction will serve as the central focal point of the futuristic land. The two-passenger jets can be lowered or raised to a height of 80 feet by guests.

    2003:
    Holidays Around the World, an Epcot tradition, kicks off for the season.

    2004:
    Disney World hosts the first "Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party" of the 2004 holiday season.

    1926:
    Disney's Alice Comedy Alice's Spanish Guitar is released.

    1934:
    Thanksgiving Day
    Macy's Christmas Parade, later to be called the Thanksgiving Day Parade, features the first set of Disney balloons. Joining a 55-foot Mickey Mouse for the stroll down Broadway in New York City are Pluto, the Big Bad Wolf, and one of the pigs from the Three Little Pigs.

    1937:
    Walt Disney receives a letter from conductor Leopold Stowkowski, suggesting Walt create a new character to use in “The Sorcerer's Apprentice" instead of using Mickey Mouse.
    (In 1940, Stowkowski will make the famous film Fantasia together with Walt ... and Mickey.)

    2001:
    Disney World premieres the first night (of 11) of the annual event "Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party" in the Magic Kingdom. The ticketed party begins each night at 7 p.m.

    1931:
    The Mickey Mouse short Mickey Cuts Up is released.

    1935:
    Disney's Silly Symphony cartoon **** o' the Walk is released.

    1955:
    The Disneyland television series airs "The Story of the Animated Drawing," hosted by Walt Disney himself. This is the first of what will be three episodes based on Disney's "Art of Animation" book. (Actually at the time of airing, the "Art of Animation" hasn't been published yet and so the book Walt is reading from on camera is just a prop.)

    2002:
    A charity auction takes place in Paris as part of the 10-year Euro Disney celebration.

    2003:
    Mousefest 2003 ,the largest Walt Disney World gathering of Disney fans from around the Internet, begins in Florida. The 9-day event encompasses about 24 online communities such as All Ears Net, Passporter, Mousesavers, WDWMAGIC, Disney Dollarless, and MousePlanet.

    It is reported that Roy E. Disney (the nephew of Walt Disney and son of Roy O. Disney) has resigned from the Walt Disney Company.

    2004:
    Mickey's Jingle Jungle Parade (a special holiday season parade) debuts at Disney World's Animal Kingdom.

    Walt's brother Herb Disney retires from the Post Office after more than 37 years.

    1955:
    At Disneyland, the Maxwell House Coffee House opens on Main Street. (It will close less than 2 years later.)

    1966:
    Disney's live-action feature film Follow Me, Boys! (starring Fred MacMurray and Vera Miles) is generally released.

    1971:
    The Roy O. Disney, the 4th engine of the Disney World Railroad, goes into service. Like the park's 3 other engines,all in service since October 1, 1971, this engine was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works of Pennsylvania.

    1973:
    By winning the Walt Disney World Open golf tournament in Florida, Jack Nicklaus becomes the first player in golfing history to pass $2 million in career earnings.

    2001:
    The Triceratops Spin ride opens at Disney World's Animal Kingdom.

    2002:
    Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party kicks off for the first time this season at Disney World's Magic Kingdom.
