    Laurie Main, the narrator of such Disney videos as Winnie the Pooh & Christmas Too and Winnie the Pooh Spookable Pooh, is born in London, England. She is also the voice of Dawson in the 1986 animated feature The Great Mouse Detective.

    1835:
    Mark Twain is born Samuel Langhorne Clemens in the small town of Florida, Missouri. (He will be raised in Hannibal, Missouri.) Walt Disney had a great affinity for Twain's writing. Tom Sawyer Island (based on Twain's classic The Adventures of Tom Sawyer) is the only Disneyland attraction that Walt personally designed. (Visit Mr. Twain at Epcot's Audio-Animatronic stage show The American Adventure.)

    1927:
    Actor Robert Guillaume, the voice of Rafiki in The Lion King animated films, is born in St. Louis, Missouri. He also appeared in the 1994 television specials The Making of 'The Lion King' and Disney's Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra.
    (TV fans will know Guillaume from such series as Soap, Benson, and Sports Night.)

    2003:
    Mousefest 2003 (the largest Walt Disney World gathering of Disney fans from around the Internet) begins in Florida. The 9-day event encompasses about 24 online communities such as All Ears Net, Passporter, Mousesavers, WDWMAGIC,
    Disney Dollarless, and MousePlanet.

    2004:
    Disney's newest musical show On The Record begins performances in Chicago at The Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University. The touring production will perform through December 12.

    Mickey's Jingle Jungle Parade (a special holiday season parade) debuts at Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom.

    The Hollywood premiere of the Mary Poppins 40th anniversary DVD takes place at the El Capitan Theater in California.

    Actress Judi Dench, the voice of Mrs. Calloway in Disney's 2004 animated feature Home on the Range, is born in England.

    Actor George J. Lewis is born in Guadalajara, Mexico. (He will go on to play the role of Alejandro in Disney's Zorro TV series.)

    1923:
    Actor Harold Gould (who portrayed the grandpa in Disney's 2003 Freaky Friday and supplied the voice of Old Denahi in Disney's 2003 animated Brother Bear) is born in Schenectady, New York.

    1941:
    Original Mouseketeer Tommy Kirk is born in Louisville, Kentucky. Besides taking part in TV's The Mickey Mouse Club he appeared in such Disney film classics as Old Yeller, Babes in Toyland, and Son of Flubber.

    Chad Stuart, the voice of Flaps (one of the four singing vultures) in Disney's 1967 The Jungle Book, is born in England. (Stuart is best known as half of the 60s singing duo Chad and Jeremy.)

    1954:
    Chris Miller, Walt Disney's grandson, is born in Monterey County, California.

    1957:
    Actor Michael Clarke Duncan, the voice of Tug in Disney's 2003 Brother Bear, is born in Chicago, Illinois. (Movie fans may recall him for his role of John Coffey in the 1999 The Green Mile.)

    Actor D ick Van Dyke, who narrated the 2001 TV special Walt: The Man Behind the Myth and portrayed Bert in Disney's 1964 feature Mary Poppins is born in West Plains, Missouri. He also hosted the TV specials Florida's Disney Decade (in 1981) and Donald Duck's 50th Birthday (in 1984).

    1959:
    Child-actor Johnny Whitaker, who starred in Disney's 1972 Napoleon and Samantha with Jodie Foster, and Snowball Express with Dean Jones, is born in Van Nuys, California. (TV fans may remember Whitaker for his part in the 1960s series Family Affair and the 1970s series Sigmund and the Sea Monsters.)

    2004:
    Nominations are announced for the 62nd annual Golden Globe Awards. The Disney/Pixar feature The Incredibles earns one for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. It is also announced that Robin Williams (the voice of the Blue Genie in Disney's 1992 Aladdin) will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award.

    Comedic actor Tim Conway is born Thomas Daniel Conway in Willoughby, Ohio. He will go on to appear in Disney's Apple Dumpling Gang movies, the 1973 The World's Greatest Athlete, the 1987 TV special Walt Disney World Celebrity Circus, and perform the voice of Griff in Disney's Hercules animated TV series. (TV fans will know him best from his appearances on "The Carol Burnett Show" and as the voice of Barnacle Boy on the animated series "SpongeBob SquarePants.")

    2004:
    On the 50th anniversary of his debut as "king of the wild frontier," the man known to millions of baby-boomers as legendary frontiersman Davy Crockett receives the highest honor Disneyland bestows, when the Anaheim park unveils a tribute window on Main Street to actor Fess Parker.

    The stage musical Mary Poppins opens at the Prince Edward Theatre in London. (The show had been running at the Bristol Hippodrome since September.)

    The Walt Disney Company breaks ground on the first phase of a 125-acre campus that eventually will house its theme-park designers, sound stages and a high-tech business center.
