    Funnyman Charlie Callas, the voice of Elliott in Disney's 1977 Pete's Dragon, is born in Brooklyn, New York.


    Disney Legend Sam McKim is born in North Vancouver, British Columbia. McKim will be instrumental in the design of various areas of Disneyland, as well as being the creator of the very first souvenir map of the park.

    Original Mouseketeer Tommy Cole (who will remain with the show for all 4 years) is born in Burbank, California.

    Art director, Imagineer and Disney Legend Marvin Davis is born in Clovis, New Mexico. (In 1962, he will receive an Emmy Award for art direction and scenic design on Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color.)

    1913:
    Imagineer and Disney Legend Fred Joerger is born in Pekin, Illinois. He will help realize Walt Disney's visions by crafting three-dimensional miniature models of Disney theme park attractions, as well as motion picture sets and props
    (before they are brought to full-scale life).

    1922:
    Paul Winchell, ventriloquist and the voice of many animated characters including Disney's Tigger (and Fleegle of TV's The Banana Splits) is born in New York City.

    1936:
    A baby girl named Sharon Mae is born. Less than two weeks later she will be adopted by Walt Disney and his wife Lillian.

    1948:
    Actor Samuel L. Jackson, the voice of Lucius Best/Frozone in the 2004 Disney-Pixar animated feature The Incredibles,
    is born in Washington, D.C.

    2004:
    Disney releases Where The Red Fern Grows to DVD and VHS. The all-new family film is based on the novel by Wilson Rawls. Also released to DVD and VHS is The Young Black Stallion (a prequel to the famous motion picture “The Black Stallion”).

    The Disneyland television series presents episode number 9 "A Present for Donald." It is a re-edited version of The Three Caballeros in which Donald Duck and friends celebrate Christmas in Mexico.

    1955:
    The Mickey Mouse Club airs on ABC-TV. Today is Circus Day.

    1963:
    Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color airs a new version of the annual holiday episode "From All of Us to All of You."

    1968:
    Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color airs "The Mickey Mouse Anniversary Show."

    Comedian-actor Ronnie Schell is born in Richmond, California.
    His Disney credits include the 1978 film The Cat From Outer Space, the 1977 TV special The Mouseketeers at Walt Disney World, and the 1976 classic The Shaggy D.A.

    1943:
    Actor-writer Harry Shearer, the voice of Dog Announcer in the 2005 animated feature Chicken Little, is born Los Angeles, California. (A Saturday Night Live alumni, Shearer provides many of the voices for TV's The Simpsons.)


    2004:
    PAX TV premieres Night of Joy: A Holiday Celebration of Faith and Family, a one-hour special hosted by Kirk Cameron. The program chronicles the creation and execution of the Night of Joy event at Magic Kingdom (an annual tradition at Walt Disney World Resort since 1983).

    A Merry Mancini Christmas is presented at the new Walt Disney Concert Hall in California. The concert features the Henry Mancini Institute Alumni Orchestra. (Legendary composer Henry Mancini wrote the music for Disney's 1986 The Great Mouse Detective.)

    Candy Candido, the voice of Fidget in Disney's 1986 animated feature The Great Mouse Detective, is born in New Orleans, Louisiana.

    1924:
    Rod Serling is born Edwin Rodman Serling in Syracuse, New York. His Twilight Zone TV series wil be the inspiration for Disney's Tower of Terror attractions.

    1950:
    Walt Disney's first television special, One Hour in Wonderland airs on NBC at 4 P.M. Sponsored by the Coca-Cola Company, the show is watched by about 20 million people. Guests include Edgar Bergen & Charlie McCarthy, Walt's daughters Diane and Sharon, Kathryn Beaumont (the voice of Alice in Wonderland) and Bobby Driscoll (the voice of Peter Pan).

    1951:
    The TV special "The Walt Disney Christmas Show" airs on CBS.

    2005:
    "Walt Disney World Resort: Plugged In," a weekly podcast, debuts. The podcast features behind-the-scenes tours of Disney's four Florida theme parks, celebrity interviews, news about upcoming events and conversations with Walt Disney Imagineers.

    Newsman Dave MacPherson is born in Ithaca, New York. In July 1955 he will make Disneyland history when he becomes the first paying customer to enter the Anaheim park.

    Disney animator & cartoonist John "Jack" Morin Bradbury is born in Seattle, Washington. He will join Disney in 1934 as an in-betweener on several cartoons and later work on larger projects, such as Pinocchio, Fantasia and Bambi. In 1947 he will join Western Publishing where he will draw DIsney comics.

    1939:
    Actor John Amos, who appears in the 1973 live-action Disney feature The World's Greatest Athlete, is born in Newark, New Jersey. (TV fans will recognize him as James Evans from the hit 1970s series Good Times.)

    1969:
    Critic, reporter & columnist Sarah Vowell, the voice of Violet Parr in Disney /Pixar's The Incredibles, is born in Muskogee, Oklahoma. (She is best known for her bits on public radio's This American Life.)

    The longest-running series in prime-time television history, The Wonderful World of Disney, is canceled after more than 25 years on NBC.

    The Selective Service System, in the midst of reminding 18-year-olds to register for the draft, mistakenly send a warning to Mickey Mouse at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. The Selective Service says that Mickey is in violation of
    registration compliance.

    Virginia Davis, Walt Disney's first human star, is born in Kansas City, Missouri. (She will appear in the first 13 titles of Disney's early Alice Comedies.)


    1920:
    Western entertainer Rex Allen is born in his Grandmother Clark's home in Wilcox, Arizona. (He will perform as a narrator, singer, and actor in more than 80 Disney films and provide the voice for 150 different Disney cartoon characters. Allen will be the original voice of the father and later the voice of the grandfather in Disney's Carousel of Progress.)

    1940:
    Actor Tim Considine (Spin Evans of Disney's Spin and Marty TV serial) is born in Los Angeles, California.

    1967:
    Actress Tia Carrere (the voice of Nani in Disney's 2002 Lilo & Stitch) is born in Honolulu, Hawaii.

    2006:
    In observance with the Tournament of Roses “Never on Sunday” tradition, the 117th Rose Parade in Pasadena, California takes place on a Monday. Disney takes part in the event with a float featuring recreations of all 5 castles from each of its theme parks.

    1918:
    Maxine Andrews, one-third of the popular singing trio The Andrews Sisters, is born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Aside from frequently playing themselves in movies, the sisters sold over 60 million records and lent their singing voices to Disney's Make Mine Music and Melody Time.

    1989:
    Actor Alex D. Linz, the star of Max Keeble's Big Move, is born in Santa Barbara, California. His Disney credits also include the voice of Young Tarzan in the 1999 Tarzan.

    2004:
    NASA's Spirit rover lands on Mars. Administrator Sean O'Keefe sums up the amazing feat with the simple phrase: "We're back ... and we're on Mars."
    (That quote, along with a replica of the twin robot geologists roving Mars, will later be enshrined outside the Mission:SPACE attraction at Epcot.)

    2005:
    It is reported that a London Lorry driver named Nick Pain has named his newborn son Disney.
