    Character actor & Disney Legend Sterling Holloway, the original voice of Winnie the Pooh, is born in Cedartown, Georgia. His countless Disney voice credits include Dumbo, Bambi, The Three Caballeros, Make Mine Music, Peter and the Wolf, Alice in Wonderland, and The Aristocats.

    1918:
    Composer and Disney Legend Norman 'Buddy' Baker is born in Springfield, Missouri. He will compose nearly 200 scores for Disney motion pictures, television, and theme parks. Among his musical contributions will be TV's The Mickey Mouse Club, and the Haunted Mansion theme park attractions.

    1943:
    Original Mouseketeer Mary Lynn Sartori is born in Glendale, California.

    1962:
    Voice actress, writer, and radio host April Winchell is born in New York City. Her Disney voice credits include Kim Possible: So the Drama, Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas, and Tarzan & Jane. April is the daughter of Paul Winchell (ventriloquist & the voice of Tigger) and Nina Russel.

    1963:
    Comedic actor Dave Foley, the voice of Flik in Disney's 1998 A Bug's Life, a member of the comedy team Kids in the Hall, and Dave Nelson on TV's News Radio, is born in Etobicoke, a suburb of Toronto. He also appears in the 2005 live-action feature Sky High, as Mr Boy.

    2004:
    The Toronto production of Disney's The Lion King is staged for the last time. The live show closes after more than 1,500 performances over nearly four years at the Princess of Wales Theatre.

    2005:
    The largest Disney theme park ticket give-away takes place at the Fed Ex Orange Bowl National Championship game in Miami, Florida. Seventy-two thousand ticket holders shout “I’m going to Disneyland!” after each of them receive a surprise free ticket to any Disney theme park in the world. Mickey Mouse makes a surprise appearance at the end of the third quarter and personally invites each of them to the global celebration saluting the 50th anniversary of Disneyland Park in California. (The Southern California Trojans win over the Oklahoma Sooners by a score of 55-19.)

    The Wonders of Life Pavilion closes at Epcot.

    1913:
    Animator, director, writer and Disney Legend Jack Hannah is born in Arizona. At the Walt Disney Studios he will start as an animator before helping Carl Barks (the man who drew the comic book adventures of Donald Duck) create his first two comic book stories. Hannah will later go on to direct some 94 Disney animated films.

    2004:
    The 2003 Annie Award nominations, presented by the International Animated Film Society, are announced. Disney nominees include Disney/Pixar's Finding Nemo (with multiple nominations), Brother Bear, Jungle Book 2, 101 Dalmatians II, Destino, Piglet's Big Movie, and Stitch! The Movie. (Winners will be announced on February 7th.)

    2005:
    Disney's Phil of the Future (which has aired on the Disney Channel in the U.S. since June 2004) debuts in Canada on the Family Channel.

    The Incredibles is nominated for best movie of the year by the Producers Guild of America. (Animated features are seldom given this honor.)

    Disneyland welcomes its 500,000,000th guest Bill Trow (from Wentworth Falls, Australia). Trow is accompanied by his wife Ann-Marie and their 5-year-old daughter Aspen.

    The 35th NAACP Image Awards nominations are announced. The Walt Disney Company is nominated for several awards that honor companies who support positive images for people of color in arts and entertainment.

    1916:
    Administrator and Disney Legend Card Walker is born in Rexburg, Idaho. (In 1971 he will be elected president of The Walt Disney Company - then called Walt Disney Productions.)

    2004:
    The daytime game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire, hosted by Meredith Vieira, tape episodes at the Disney-MGM Studios (for the next 3 days).

    To celebrate the success of NASA's Mars Exploration Rover, Epcot guests, Mickey Mouse, and Cast Members sign a giant congratulatory postcard outside the Misssion:SPACE attraction.

    Brazilian Adriano Bastos, 26 of Sao Paulo, posts a time of 2:19:16 winning the 2005 Walt Disney World Marathon. His second victory in the Florida marathon is the 18th-fastest Disney time ever.

    Amy Shertzer, 27, of Monument, Colorado, wins the women's full marathon with a time of 2:56:06.

    Michael McGrane of Somerville, Massachusetts, wins the men's half marathon leading the field of nearly 8,500 runners with a time of 1:13:08.

    Actor Ray Bolger is born in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Best known for his role of the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz, Bolger also starred in Disney's 1961 live-action feature Babes in Toyland.

    1930:
    Roy Edward Disney, a vice chairman of Disney and the nephew of Walt Disney, is born to Roy Oliver and Edna Disney in Los Angeles, California. (He will begin working for his Uncle Walt after graduating from college in 1951.)

    2005:
    Seventy-five six-foot tall Mickey Mouse statues begin their visit at Disney's California Adventure. They will be on display until February 22.

    Actor Rod Taylor, the voice of Pongo in Disney's 1961 film One Hundred and One Dalmations, is born in Australia.

    1931:
    Writer and composer Mary Rodgers is born in New York City. Her novel Freaky Friday will twice be brought to the big screen by Disney. (Mary is the daughter of legendary Broadway and film composer Richard Rodgers.)

    2004:
    The 11th annual Walt Disney World Marathon and Half Marathon both take place with a record-setting 24,000 participants (15,500 in the full marathon and 8,500 in the half marathon). Floridians Matthew Dobson of Jay and Kim Donaldson of St. Petersburg finish in first and second place (it is the first all-American championship finish in the 11-year history of the race). Clinton Verran, Nicholas Cordes and Brian Sell (a trio of Michigan runners tuning up for the Olympic Trials) cross the half marathon finish line together in a record-shattering time of 1:05:43.

    Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean wins a People's Choice Award for favorite motion picture at the 30th annual event.

    According to Box Office Mojo, Disney's Finding Nemo is #9 in Word Wide All-Time Box Office Grosses (as of this day) at $821.3 million. Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean comes in at #18 at $653.4 million.

    2005:
    Disney releases 4 Walt Disney's Classic Cartoon Favorites to DVD. The vintage collections include Walt Disney's Classic Cartoon Favorites: Volume 1 Starring Mickey, Walt Disney's Classic Cartoon Favorites: Volume 2 Starring Donald, Walt Disney's Classic Cartoon Favorites: Volume 3 Starring Goofy, and Walt Disney's Classic Cartoon Favorites: Volume 4 Starring Chip 'n Dale.

    A new sports tradition at Walt Disney World begins on this cold morning when approximately 8,200 runners from around the world line up for the very first annual Walt Disney World Marathon. The 26.2-mile route runs along normal and backstage roads, past several resorts, and literally through all three theme parks.

    2004:
    Disney's animated Teacher's Pet is released.

    2005:
    Starting on this day the NFFC (the Club for Disneyana Enthusiasts) host a Strictly Disneyana Show & Sale at the Radisson Parkway Hotel in Kissimmee, Florida.

    Actor James Earl Jones, the voice of Mufasa in Disney's The Lion King, is born in Arkabutla, Missouri.

    1977:
    The first New Mickey Mouse Club episode airs on KTTV in Los Angeles at 5 pm. Besides being produced in color, a major change in this version from the 1950's series is the daily themes. Monday is Who, What, Why, Where, When and How
    Day; Tuesday is Let's Go Day; Wednesday is Surprise Day; Thursday is Discovery Day; and Friday is Showtime Day.
