    1920:
    Disney Legend Lucien Adés is born in Constantine, Algeria. He will go on to pioneer the first "read-along" record album for Disney Consumer Products in France, in 1953.

    1930:
    Buzz Aldrin, the second human to step foot on the Moon, is born in Montclair, New Jersey. Over the years the former-astronaut will attend special space-related events at Disney theme parks (such as the launch of Epcot's Mission:SPACE
    in 2003).

    1937:
    Actress Dorothy Provine, Ingrid Randall in Disney's 1965 That Darn Cat!, is born in Deadwood, South Dakota.

    2004:
    The David Kent Mumford PARC Foundation Fund is set up to honor and memorialize the magic and goodness of the late Imagineer and author David Mumford.
    (PARC is an acronym for Pediatric After-hours Referral Clinic. The clinic at Providence St. Joseph's Medical Center, where David was treated, cares for children between the hours of 4PM and 6AM both as an emergency care clinic and patient referral facility during the hours when most doctors are not available.)

    2005:
    Disney's London theatrical production Mary Poppins earns
    9 Olivier Award nominations.

    Walt Disney World announces that River Country, a water park opened since 1976 and last operated in November 2001, will remain closed permanently.

    At Disney's Animal Kingdom in Florida, Expedtion Everest's peak is lowered into place, making the new attraction nearly 20 stories high. Expedition Everest, a roller coaster themed to be an abandoned mountain railway, is expected to open in 2006.

    Animator Ub Iwerks informs Roy Disney that he wishes to leave the Disney Company. Disney will buy his 20% share of the company for $2920.00.

    Actor Robby Benson, the voice of the Beast in Disney's Beauty and The Beast, is born in Dallas, Texas.

    2005:
    A new animated series American Dragon: Jake Long debuts on the Disney Channel.

    More than 100 Oscar statuettes presented over the past 75 years are featured in a new exhibition at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences beginning this day. Included in the exhibit is the regular sized statuette and its

Lane's live-action Disney credits include The Ugly Daschund (1966), The Gnome-Mobile (1967) and the 1995 TV remake of The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes. (Movie fans will recognize Lane from his roles in such classics as Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Arsenic and Old Lace, and It's a Wonderful Life.)

    Imagineer and Disney Legend Ralph Kent is born in New York. In 1965, he will design the first limited-edition Mickey Mouse watch for adults and starting in 1971, design sourvenirs for Walt Disney World.

    1980:
    The Industrial Bank of Japan announces it and nearly 30 other Japanese banks have agreed to lend money to the Oriental Land Company to build a $300-million Disney theme park in Tokyo.

    1982:
    Wally Boag (the original Pecos Bill) gives his last performance at the Golden Horseshoe Revue at Disneyland. He has done the show almost continuously since its opening in 1955, thus putting him in the Guiness Book of Records for the most number of performances of a show.

    2005:
    Aliens of the Deep, a Walt Disney Pictures/Walden Media Presentation, is released to large format/IMAX theaters. The documentary, about a team of oceanographers and NASA scientists, is directed by James Cameron.
