    1908:
    Mel Blanc, "The Man of a 1000 Voices," is born in San Francisco, California. He will become famous for his work at Warner Brothers, Hanna-Barbera, and Disney. He will supply the hiccup sound effect in the 1940 Pinocchio and voice Cousin Orville for Walt Disney World's Carousel of Progress.

    1932:
    Disney Legend Di ck Nunis is born in Cedartown, Georgia.
    From 1967-74, he will serve as chairman of the Park Operations Committee, and in 1968, be bumped up to vice president of operations. By 1971, Nunis will be named executive vice president of Walt Disney World and Disneyland.

    1967:
    Site preparation begins in Florida on the Walt Disney World project, requiring swamp drainage, clearing of land, and removal of trees.

    2006:
    Sarah Litzsinger assumes the role of Belle in Disney's Broadway hit Beauty and the Beast. She has the distinction of being Broadway's longest-running Belle!

    1911:
    Actor Eric Rolf - who portrayed John in Disney's 1946 Song of the South and Mr. Simms in Disney's 1950 Davy Crockett, Indian Scout - is born Minneapolis, Minnesota.

    1922:
    Actress Joan Copeland - the voice of Tanana in Disney's 2003 Brother Bear - is born in New York City. Disney fans may also recall her as Mrs. Prelot in the 1997 live-action comedy Jungle 2 Jungle. (Copeland is the sister of writer Arthur Miller.)

    1933:
    The first Mickey Mouse watch is sold by Ingersoll-Waterbury, a Connecticut clock maker on the verge of bankruptcy. The sale of the watches will save the company!

    2005:
    Say Hello to ASIMO, a new presentation in the Honda ASIMO Theater, debuts at Disneyland's Innoventions. (ASIMO is an acronym for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility.)

    Actress/singer-songwriter Lalaine (Vergara-Paras), who portrays Miranda Isabella Sanchez on the Disney Channel sitcom Lizzie McGuire, is born in Burbank, California. Her Disney credits include the Disney Channel original movie You Wish and the Disney movie Annie.

    2001:
    Disney's animated Atlantis: The Lost Empire premieres in Hollywood at Disney's El Capitan Theatre.

    Actor Dennis Weaver is born in Joplin, Missouri. He will supply the voice for Abner in Disney's animated feature Home on the Range and appear in The Wonderful World of Disney's "Gallegher Goes West" series. (TV fans will know him best from the hit series Gunsmoke, Gentle Ben, and McCloud.)

    1968:
    Actor Scott Wolf - the voice of Scamp in Disney's 2001 Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure - is born in Boston, Massachusetts. (TV fans may recognize him from the series Party of Five and Everwood.)

    2005:
    The Disney Magic sets sail from California on the second of 12 cruises to the Mexican Riviera this season.

    Key members of Hong Kong's travel industry visit the Hong Kong
    Disneyland site to experience first-hand the progress behind the
    first Disney theme park in China.

    Dr. Axel Lennart Wenner-Gren, industrialist, financier, and philanthropist, is born in Sweden. His company Alweg will be best remembered for developing the original Disneyland monorail.

    1905:
    Actor John Abbott - the voice of the Wolf in Disney's 1967 classic The Jungle Book - is born in London, England.

    1925:
    Actor-singer Bill Hayes, who earned a gold record for "The Ballad of Davy Crockett," is born in Harvey, Illinois. He also had a minor follow-up hit with "Wringle Wrangle", from the 1956 Disney movie Westward Ho, The Wagons.

    1961:
    Voice artist Mary Kay Bergman, whose talents can be heard in Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Mulan and Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure, is born in Los Angeles. From 1989 until her early death in 1999, she was Disney's official voice for Snow White.

    1944:
    In the early morning hours, Allied forces (made up of mostly soldiers from the U.S., United Kingdom, and Canada) invade the Nazi-held Normandy coast of France as D-Day (or the Normandy Invasion) begins. "Mickey Mouse" is used as a password by the Allied forces. Taking part in the invasion is Solomon Hersh Frees (later known as voice actor Paul Frees of Disney's Haunted Mansion fame). He will be wounded in action and return to the U.S. for a year of recuperation. This important event will be the greatest seaborne invasion mankind has ever seen and a major turning point in World War II.

    1955:
    Sandra Bernhard, the voice of Cassandra on Disney's TV version of Hercules, is born in Flint, Michigan.

    1967:
    Actor Max Casella, the voice of Tip in Disney's Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea and Timon in Disney's Broadway show The Lion King, is born in Washington, D.C. (TV fans may recognize him as Vinnie Delpino on the series "Doogie Howser, M.D.")

    2005:
    In this day's issue of Advertising Age (an ad-industry journal), Kellogg runs an ad commemorating the late Thurl Ravenscroft, the voice of Tony the Tiger. The headline reads: "Behind every great character is an even greater man." (Disney fans know Ravenscroft as the lead vocalist on the Haunted Mansion theme song "Grim Grinning Ghosts.")

    2006:
    Walt Disney Records' soundtrack for the Disney/Pixar animated film Cars is released. The CD boasts a score from Randy Newman and new songs by Brad Paisley, Sheryl Crow and James Taylor. The film will pull into theaters 3 days later.

    Disney's animated short Lorenzo has its European premiere in Annecy, France. It is based upon pencil sketches and a story idea created by Disney veteran Joe Grant 20 years ago!

    Actor Charles Tyner, who portrayed Merle in Disney's 1977 Pete's Dragon, is born in Danville, Virginia.

    1927:
    Legendary funny man - and half the comedy team of Stiller & Meara - Jerry Stiller is born in New York City. His Disney voice credits include The Lion King 1 1/2 as Uncle Max and Teacher's Pet as Pretty Boy. (TV fans know him best from his roles on Seinfeld and The King of Queens.)

    1944:
    Mouseketeer Don Grady is born Don Agrati in San Francisco, California. Besides being a member of TV's The Mickey Mouse Club in 1957, he has also written music for game animation for Disney's Lilo and Stitch, Return to Neverland, and The Santa Clause. The actor-turned-award-winning-composer also wrote 56 minutes of original music for the games featured on the limited edition release of Beauty and the Beast DVD-set. TV fans will recognize him as Robbie Douglas on the classic My Three Sons series (for which he appeared on for 11 years).

    1961:
    Actor Michael J. Fox, the voice of Milo James Thatch in Disney's 2001 release Atlantis: The Lost Empire, is born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

    1963:
    Actor Johhny Depp, the star of Disney's 2003 live-action feature
    Pirates of the Caribbean, is born in Owensboro, Kentucky.

    2005:
    Robert B. Sherman and his brother Richard M. Sherman are inducted into the Songwriters' Hall of Fame. They have written tunes for such Disney features as The Sword in the Stone, Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, and The Tigger Movie. Their theme park music includes There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow for the Carousel of Progress and It's A Small World for the attraction of the same name.

    2006:

    1908:
    Actor Bob Cummings is born in Joplin, Missouri. In July 1955 he will help host the grand opening of Disneyland.

    1910:
    Imagineer and Disney Legend Bill Evans is born in Santa Monica, California. He will go on to landscape Disneyland as well as consult on the landscape design of Tokyo Disneyland.

    1949:
    Child acctor Kevin Corcoran is born in Santa Monica, California. His live-action Disney credits include Old Yeller (1957), The Shaggy Dog (1959), Toby Tyler, or Ten Weeks with the Circus (1960), and Pollyanna (1960).

    Actor Shia LaBeouf, the star of Disney Channel's Even Stevens and the Disney feature films The Greatest Game Ever Played and Holes, is born in Los Angeles, California. LaBeouf is also the host of the 2002 documentary Beauty and the Beast: Disney's Animation Magic.

    Character actress Mary Wickes is born in St. Louis, Missouri. She will go on to be the animators' live-action model for Cruella DeVil in Disney's One Hundred and One Dalmatians, and the voice of wisecracking gargoyle Laverne in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

    Bill Thompson, the voice of many animated Disney characters - such as Uncle Waldo in The Aristocats and King Hubert in Sleeping Beauty - is born in Terre Haute, Indiana.
