    1930:
    Disney's Silly Symphony cartoon Monkey Melodies is released.

    1936:
    Disney's Silly Symphony cartoon Three Blind Mousketeers is released.

    1953:
    Walt Disney phones artist Herb Ryman at his home to inquire about the possibility of Ryman drawing the first overall concept sketch of a new theme park. Walt's brother Roy is to leave for New York in a few days to meet with a group of investors and he needs something to present. The work Walt and Herb will do together over the upcoming "lost weekend" will help define the look of Disneyland and hopefully intrigue investors.

    2000:
    Wild Life, a Disney animated feature originally to be released in 2002, is put into turnaround (or cancelled). Described as a retro-1960's New York version of My Fair Lady, some of the Disney staff believe the story is not strong enough.

    2004:
    Walt Disney World's theme parks close for the day as Hurricane Jeanne strikes Florida!

    1938:
    Disney's first full-length animated feature Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is released in Sweden.

    2003:
    The Sioux City Arts Center (in Iowa) holds an opening night reception for a new exhibit, "The Animation Art of Ron Clements," dedicated to legendary Disney artist and film director, Ron Clements. Clements, who was born in Sioux City, worked on such classics as Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too, The Rescuers, Pete's Dragon, Aladdin, and Treasure Planet.

    2005:
    Sotheby’s and The Walt Disney Company conclude the celebration of Mickey Mouse’s 75th anniversary with an auction of 75 statues of Mickey - which have toured the country since Mickey’s 75th birthday on November 18, 2003.

    Annual passports (special year-long admission passes)

    Disney's Aladdin Special Edition Soundtrack is released.
    The collection features all 21 original tracks plus recordings of
    two deleted songs ("Proud of Your Boy" and "High Adventure"
    written by the movie's Academy Award winning songwriting
    team of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman).

    Disney's Mickey Mouse cartoon The Steeple Chase is released.

    1971:
    Walt Disney World's Preview Center, located on Buena Vista Boulevard, closes. It featured displays of models and drawings of Disney's new Florida theme park - which will open the following day. (The boulevard will later be renamed Hotel Plaza and the Preview Center will become the headquarters for the Amateur Athletic Union.)

    2005:
    Disney's The Greatest Game Ever Played, starring Shia LaBeouf, is released in theaters.

    Actor Tom Bosley, the original Maurice in Disney's Broadway hit Beauty and the Beast, is born in Chicago, Illinois.

    1950:

    Actor Randy Quaid, the voice of Alameda Slim in Disney's 2004 animated feature Home on the Range, is born in Houston, Texas.

    1966:

    Walt Disney accepts the Showman of the World Award from the National Association of Theater Owners.

    1982:

    EPCOT Center at Walt Disney World has its grand opening with more than 100 television crews from all over the world covering the event. Bands and orchestras play to the huge crowds and Walt Disney's wife Lillian helps in the dedication. EPCOT is an acronym coined by Walt Disney in 1966 meaning Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow.

    2006:

    As of today, theater groups and schools everywhere can license the scripts and music to Disney's High School Musical.

    Walt Disney Parks and Resorts' 14-month "Year of a Million Dreams" campaign begins on the day Disney World turns 35.

    Themed collectible Mouseketeer merchandise (to coincide with next day's 50th anniversary of TV's The Mickey Mouse Club) is released at the Carriage Place in the Emporium located on Disneyland's Main Street.

    2006:
    Walt Disney Imagineering breaks ground on a new interactive attraction coming to the Paradise Pier area of Disney's California Adventure Park. The yet-to-be-named attraction is scheduled to open in 2008.

    Peter Pan's Flight opens at Walt Disney World, on the park's third day in business. Based on the 1953 animated film, guests board vessels (attached to rails above) and "soar" over the skies of London.

    2002:

    A new shoppping venue, Le Bat en Rouge, opens in Disneyland's New Orlean Square.

    2005:

    Ten of the original Mouseketeers gather in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland to sing, dance, and share memories. They are joined by 1,000 honorary Mouseketeers, who help them unveil the world's largest pair of Mouseketeer ears on the anniverary of The Mickey Mouse Club.

    2006:

    Walt Disney Records' releases The Little Mermaid 2-Disc Special Edition Soundtrack and Disney's Karaoke Series: The Little Mermaid.

    Actress Glynis Johns is born in Pretoria, South Africa. She will be best known to Disney fans as Winifred Banks in the 1964 film Mary Poppins.

    1949:

    Disney's 11th animated feature film The Adventures of Ichabod
    and Mr. Toad is released. The film features the voices of Bing Crosby, who narrates "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", and Basil Rathbone, who narrates the tale of "The Wind in the Willows".

    1982:

    EPCOT Center's World of Motion, a whimsical look at the development of transportation from the human foot to a bustling futuristic city, is officially dedicated (although it has been up and running since the park's grand debut on October 1). It is sponsored by General Motors - the very first company to sign with Disney to sponsor an EPCOT pavilion.
