Walt Disney's Song of the South is released and has its debut at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, Georgia. The film, based on the books by Joel Chandler Harris, is Walt's first major plunge into live-action film making.

1957:
Disney stock is first listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Actor-director Gary Marshall, the voice of Buck Cluck in the 2005 feature Chicken Little, is born in New York City.

1955:
Actress Whoopi Goldberg, the voice of Shenzi in Disney's The Lion King, is born in New York City.

1960:
Walt Disney Presents airs "Donald's Silver Anniversary."

1968:
Actor Steve Zahn, the voice of Runt of the Litter in the 2005 animated feature Chicken Little, is born in Marshall, Minnesota.

2005:
It is reported that Chicken Little is the top film in U.S. and Canadian theaters for the second week in a row with about $32 million in sales.

Actor Brian Keith is born Bayonne, New Jersey. His live-action Disney film credits include The Parent Trap (1961) and Moon Pilot (1962).

1946:
Walt Disney sets sail out of New York on the Queen Elizabeth. He is headed to England and then Ireland.

1964:
Actor Patrick Warburton, the voice of Alien Cop in the 2005 animated feature Chicken Little, is born in Paterson, New Jersey. His other Disney credits include Sky High and Kim Possible: The Secret Files.

2005:
Mickey's Jingle Jungle Parade steps off at Disney's Animal Kingdom for the first time this season.

1929:
Disney's Mickey Mouse short Jungle Rhythm - the 12th and final Mickey short of 1929 - is released. It features the voice of Walt Disney (as Mickey) and the music of Carl W. Stalling. It is the first Mickey short to have music in the opening credits!

1989:
The Walt Disney Pictures' 28th animated feature film, The Little Mermaid (featuring the voice of Jodi Benson as Ariel) is released in U.S. theaters. It is the first Disney animated feature in three decades based on a classic fairy tale since Sleeping Beauty.

2006:
Disney Editions publishes the book Pirates of the Caribbean: From the Magic Kingdom to the Movies by Imagineer Jason Surrell.

Actor Royal Dano, the voice of Abraham Lincoln for Disney's Hall of Presidents and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln attractions, is born in New York City.

2006:
"Mary Poppins" a new Broadway stage musical, opens at Disney's New Amsterdam Theater in New York City. The show features Ashley Brown as Mary and Gavin Lee (direct from the London cast) as Bert.

Actor Stephen Root, the voice of Bubbles in thes 2003 Finding Nemo, is born in Sarasota, Florida. His Disney credits also include the voice of Zeb in the 2002 The Country Bears.

1954:
The Disneyland television series presents "The Donald Duck Story" (a clever take on "This is Your Life"). Clarence Nash, the voice of Donald, appears along with Walt Disney.

Mickey Mouse stars in Steamboat Willie, the first commercially successful animated cartoon to use synchronized sound. Disney's third Mickey short (but the first with sound) debuts as a sneak preview at the Colony Theatre - located at Broadway & 53rd Street in New York City.

1968:
Actor Owen Wilson, the voice of Lightning McQueen in the 2006 Cars, is born in Dallas, Texas.

1992:
Actress Miley Cyrus, the star of Disney Channel's Hannah Montana, is born in Nashville, Tennessee. She is the daughter of singer/actor Billy Ray Cyrus.

2001:
Disney's Candlelight Processional kicks off at Epcot. In its 31st year,
the Candlelight Processional is a presentation of the Christmas story in readings by a celebrity narrator and music by a massed choir and 50-piece orchestra. There are 3 shows nightly through December 30th. Candlelight Processional is part of Holidays Around the World at Epcot, an international celebration throughout World Showcase.

2006:
A live performance of Disney's High School Musical is featured at the 80th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
