REVISED 5/05
services for wdw deaf lovers
I believe WDW did good job with provide all the communciations accesses for deaf people. I went there recent january trip and i took advantage of ever RC ( reading captions).
however, I encountered some CM seem clueless about RC and my sister (hearing) had to explaining to some CM what RC was and had to point to the wall of back room with sign. They was like Oh! allright and gave me and my brother the post with reflective board. we sat and waitied and waited and show started up and sign never came on and I was like huh? clearly to me they have thought sign would come on automallicy which is not true..
Anyway, I was disappointed that have happened to us three times in a week. Other times, I told CM beforehand the shows started. I expected them to let me and brother plus my sister in the show room earlier before the crowd so we can sit at better location to read the caption from behind. CM didnt let us in and all crowds went in and shockingly CM was like umm um um and asked the senior CM what to do with me and my family of five. They had to asked a big family to leave the front row so we can sit there wtih RC post. Family were very very angry at us for make them to leave but personally They cant blame me.
Sorry if this sound negative complainets But, There are jsut Lack of knowledge of RC and how to use it. I am jsut surprised that CM didnt remember that we have to sit there before crowd can be let in .
I hope i can fix it if I ever get accepted into college program and i could talk to managers and ask them to see how can i assist with that to jsut training CM how to use RC and be more aware of that option rather than be clueless.
thats all i can do .. prehap not i dunno...
letter to wdw management, How?
Where i can find address and etc...? or website?
I would be happy to write letter to them and see if that would make impact or not?
also do you want to help me out by point things out?
I agree that it seem wdw have slipped with their service esp toward to deaf/hard of hearing people.
I think its problem because deaf/ hard of hearing dont really request often nor ask for one or help. I think many of them feel like they want to be treated as like "normal". saddenly, that is so true with so many people and they still dont take advantage of service that WDW offer them. I am not sure how many actually used service or not?
Anyway back to the point, Letter to WDW management sound good to me!! i dont even think of that beforehand! geez how silly of me!
hope to hear from you:mickeykid
Re: Info for Guests with Hearing Disabilities
Someday I hope to become an interpreter for WDW. I am currently enrolled in ASL at my high school, and will be majoring in ASL interpreting at Bethel in about a year. I've always loved being apart of people's lives by bettering their experiences, whether it's back stage or in the foreground. I hope to make it to Disney as an interpreter, but if it doesn't happen for me I will be content to interpret anywhere. I just think that everybody needs Disney Magic in their lives hearing or not. :)
