Disney-MGM Hidden Mickey

GaRain asked about the Disney MGM Hidden Mickey on the PhilharMagic thread so here it is....

In this fisrt photo of the map you can see where it is located:






In this second aerial photo you can then find it on the grounds.:






Of course the photos must be pre-BAH

But....

You can see him here, if you realize he has a BAH on his nose! ....





If I find any more I will post them also.

Allright, I'm eating my words from that last post I made on that thread. I've never seen any aerial pics of this, and could really only tell it was even there by looking at the map. Very cool!

Looking at the map.....

Mickey's face is upside down....

The lake is Mickey's Left ear....

The entrance to Graumann's Chinese Theatre is his mouth/chin...

The planter in the center of the open plaza in fromt of the theatre is his nose...

The two oval planters are his eyes.


After identifing his face on the map it is easier to find it on the photos.

Quick question where is his right ear or is there no right ear?

Just flip the computer, or MONITOR, upside down. U'll find it in the middle. his right ear is behind the little vehicle type thing

If you don't want to do that just copy and paste the pictures in a word program and print it out then you can flip it around.

His right ear used to be painted on top of the roofs of the buildings(you can see it in the second aerial photo). In the more recent photo with the BAH, it looks like that the rooftops are all white now. I believe that it's the old Soundstage restaurant, which is now the Playhouse Disney - Live on Stage! building.

My husband recently came across this old postcard I had sent him back in 1989. It looks like the photo was taken before construction was complete at Disney-MGM Studios. You can see the painted rooftops for the right ear at the top edge of the photo, towards the left.

I just learned this last night....I'm a cast member now at MGM...YAY!! lol....well, last night I took a tour of the Great Movie Ride and the tourguide told us that the Chinese Grauman Theatre used to be like...the Castle of MGM, it was the first thing you saw when you walked into the park. Well the Grauman Theatre started wanting more money, and Disney said no. So the theatre said, "fine...then put somthing in the way. It's not your focal point of the park anymore" So that's exactly what Disney did...they placed the hat, pissing off a lot of GMR cast members and making the hat the new icon of MGM. And actually....now that the hat is there, the hidden mickey no longer exists. It used to be the world's largest. Now the world's largest Hidden Mickey is in Disneyland Hong Kong.
