if i am not mistaken... River Country used fresh water... i think... now water has to come from what they call a municipal water system... not a regular body of water as River Country had done...

it closed up in 2001... and it looked like they literally closed the doors one day, and never opened them again...

Elvistelth's picture says it all... rotting and decaying away... what a waste...

River Country is just (West I think) of Fort Wilderness on Bay Lake.

I only went to River Country once,back in 1987.I didn't get to spend a lot of time there,but for what I did,i wasn't all that impressed with the place.I think the two water parks are much better than the ole swimmin hole.

I agree. I think River Country has two reasons people miss it: the nostalgia factor and its location on Bay Lake.

Very true.Obviously,the water parks weren't even thought of,in 1987,nor value resorts(for people like me),but there was,and still is,Wet and Wild,up on International Dr,and we went there back in1987 and had a blast.But,yeah,the nostalgic thing is the biggest reason why people still like that place.I maight of as well,had I been able to go to WDW at a younger age,say,with the parents.But mine never took us there,my first time there was the 1987 trip.

Thanks for the pics.I am corny and I know it,but I love little walking trails and boardwalk pathe like that.The one time that I did go to RC,I never saw this area at all.
