I miss Food Rocks!!
I chose Horizons. It took a bold look at what the future could be. Also, it accomplished this without having to rely on pre-existing Disney characters. It created its own story, its own characters, and captured our hearts and imaginations with them. This imagination of the future is what (I think) is missing from the latest iteration of Spaceship Earth. Sure, there are the personalized animated endings (which I seem to enjoy much more than the majority of posters here), but there are no longer any ride scenes depicting the future.
The ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter was a close second to me, though. Actually, I would gladly take the entire mid-90's Tomorrowland over what we have now. In my opinion, I would be fine if all pre-existing characters were restrained within Fantasyland and Toontown Fair. The art-deco style theming of the future with its self-standing backstories and attractions were better than the current Pixar-themed kid rides we have now.
Sorry for the soapbox response, I expected to just post a sentence or two!!! Don't get me wrong, I love WDW and always will. I just think what is currently great was once even greater!

Horizons!

horizons was excellent... when i was a kid... but i think it would be real outdated now... it probably would have went through a few refurbs by now at least... and as we know what happened to JiI... we might not be happy with the Horizons of today if it was still around today... but in true nostalgia i do miss it as it was...

Quite often, it's the case that it is far better for an attraction to close before it goes badly downhill, allowing you to keep far better memories than if you were to see it in an exceptionally run-down state. Particularly in the case, perhaps with Horizons, if a more modern refurbishment would significantly alter what it was that you had grown attached to in the first place...

Park Hopper Dad!
i would love alien encounter to be back to the way it once was. It was one that me and my family really talked about after the trip. And now all we talk about is how stitch smelled.
yeh Alien Encounter has a cult following i feel more because of the backlash against Stitch... though i did think AE was a good attraction...
old attractions seem to get alot of love when the replacing attraction is terrible (i.e. Stitch) or non existent (i.e. 20k)
as much as people were very upset about toad... it isnt killed as much now because Pooh isnt a terrible attraction... or Mickey Mouse Revue is forgotten because of how good Pilarmagic is...

With my favourite at any rate, a lot of the bitterness pre-dates the lack of a replacement, and instead stems from the lack of warning we were given (i.e. None) about its impending death (compare and contrast with Toad) and the underhand way in which we were strung along to believe it would be re-opened in December 1994 and subsequently the start of every season since then until mid 1996 when management had no such intention.
If you are going to take out one of your park's anchors and Fantasyland's only true E-Ticket, that's fine. But be up front about it and stand behind your decision with confidence.

oh yeh... that is absolutely true... the fact that one day it was up and running, and the next it was tightened up for a "refurb" made people believe it would be down for a few months... not permanently... that is true crime here...
my statement was more that because nothing replaced 20k it has made the wound all the more deeper...
