Character Mural

I was just poking around in the photo galleries and came across some shots of the old mural that was located somewhere on mainstreet. I vaguely remember seeing this at some point but can't remember where it was in the least. Anyone remember where this was located and why it was removed?

If it is a wall painted with many different Disney characters, it was in the rear of the Exposition Hall.

It's still there. It's in the back of Expo Hall on Main Street.

The mural contained images of characters from all of Disney's animated films.

I believe the last characters that were added were from the film "The Black Cauldron". That area used to be one of my favorite places to go when it house The Walt Disney Story. They had the Oscar that Walt Disney received for "Snow White" on permanent display there.

Ok so on that topic... I understand that obviously it's changed back there. The movie isn't there any longer and the Oscar isn't on display... I also know that the characters no longer "prepare" to go out to Main Street like they used to back there. What I have heard however is that (in addition to the mural) there are TONS of cardboard cut outs of characters back there to get your picture with if you want. Can anyone verify that as being true?

Next question... how precisely do I get to where we're talking about? I have never been back there and reallllllly wanna see the mural this trip. I've seen 3 or 4 different explanations on how to get there ranging from an unmarked door with feet painted on the ground on mainstreet to it being a hallway in the back of the area you buy film. Anyone?

I don't know about the movies- they were still playing back in Aug. And the cutouts should still be there too.

It's very easy to get back to where the cutouts are. Go through the main entrance to The Exposition Hall, Proceed through the center of the building and go past the places where you can have your picture taken. On the right, there is an entrance to a seating area where you can watch Mickey Mouse shorts from the early days of Disney Animation. There are four or five wooden setups where you can pose and take your own photos. There is also a car from Mr. Toad's Wild Ride that you can sit in and photograph.

It was in "The Disney Story." I saw it once when I was a kid. My father took three pictures of the whole mural. When I got home I redrew the whole mural on 2 huge pieces of poster board. I miss the mural and the show.

I'll be posting some shots that I grabbed of the Expo Hall (just in time I might add) in our trip report in a little bit for anyone who is interested.

Oh and as a note, I didn't see the mural back there. I may have completely missed it but even in going back through the photos I can't find it.

I don't know if you can get to the mural anymore. They have blocked it off because of the package pickup. If you go to the right in the Expo Hall and down the hallway, it's at the end of the hall. The last time we were there, there was a curtain at the end of the hallway. Sorry!

Did you go into the theater?

Ahhh that would explain why we didn't see it then!

Yep we went into the theater. There weren't any cartoons showing but I got some good photos. Unfortunately about 5 minutes after we came in, a CM started closing the curtains and ropes on us. He said no rush but to just hop the rope when we were done. Eventually he put up a sign that explained why... they were doing some sort of special event for AAA folks.

The photos will be in day 2 of the trip report. Soon as we can get Aaron to sleep that is (he's still a little wound up from the trip). LOL!
