They certainly did mess up the castle. I long for the pretty walk up Main Street, the seating area lined in beautiful trees, where you could relax with the back drop of the castle. Now the Castle is a back drop to a sound stage. Not the concept.

I don't even enjoy walking through the castle any longer. Now Disney has created the End of Main St. to be a Concrete Jungle. Modern Main St.
Has Disney forgotten about Tree City USA?

I wonder if we will ever see the back of that stage... or, for that matter, the one across from Caribbean Plaza... if it is even called that anymore?

If this was facebook I would've liked this...the worst though is the High School Musical stage in front of the Sorcerer hat in HS; completely distorts the view of the hat, as well as walking down the main street in the park

I thought you couldn't walk through the castle anymore...at least while a show is going on...I used to like walking through the castle and look through the shop in it (which the name eludes me right now)...and now that shop is on Main Street...not as invigorating anymore

Now we need a show in front of Spaceship Earth blocking the entrance, and one blocking the base of the Tree of Life and then all four bases will be covered...literally!

I remember Mickey sugar cubes on tables. Not just sugar cubes being sold.

Maybe they still do at some places. Most I get the pad of butter with wax paper over it.

Now that you mention it, I didn't see them at Disneyland last August or Disney World last October.

    Re: "Minusing"

A 40th anniversary where this is the biggest news:

    ...is minusing.

    It reminds me of this:

For those who don't know the meaning of this picture, it's from the Simpsons Episode "Lisa VS. Malibu Stacy"
Lisa challenges the makers of the Malibu Stacy doll to create a less sexist and pro-feminist doll. When they won't listen, Lisa enlists the help of Mr. Smithers to find the original creator of Malibu Stacy, Stacy Lovell. Together Lisa and Miss Lovell create Lisa Lionheart in an effort to positively influence young girls. In the end Lisa's doll loses to the new Malibu Stacy. It is considered new because of the addition of a hat.

You would have thought they would have budgeted and forecasted to have Fantasyland complete in time for the 40th. It still really surprises me. To think, if they had played their cards right, they could have celebrated with the "new" land and the "original" Tiki Room.

Does it seem to you the current management style is just "doing things on the fly"?

They seem worse at executing long term planning compared to how they used to do it.

I get a sense that they are just trying to keep their heads above the water.

    Re: "Minusing"

Yes, absolutely. That was certainly one thing the Big Two never had a problem with - planning long-term, even if it meant putting your neck on the bank's block. I really hope the next "generation", as it were, will have a better outlook and more of an pioneering spirit.

I don't buy the reasoning that the money was not there either; just look at the meteoric rise in ticket price and merchandising - ahead of inflation - for a start. That theory is blown clean from the water.
