Lost but not forgotten MK attractions
The MK has come a long way since opening day in 1971...

For me, I really miss Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and If You Had Wings... Classic, campy attractions that bring back frond memories of the parks as a kid.

I too have extremely fond memories of If you had wings. -- but close behind in my enjoyment back in the day was Mission to Mars - yes, I know it was bad.. but i loved it.
Also - I would love it if they would (for a limited time) bring back the replacement song for the Carousel of Progress just so I could sing - Its a great big beautiful tomorrow - one more time with the 'family'
I do like it when I hear the song playing as ambiance music as we walk around tomorrowland.

MB,
CoP isn't gone... as a metter of fact, it has been stated for quite some time that Walt instructed that the CoP never be removed from WDW. I believe it is a much overlooked attraction, with a great deal of charm and nostalgia. It may not be the most technologically-advanced attraction in the parks, but is unique in its design if nothing else. Sure, electricity is not the most exciting topic for a ride, but hey, it's got a long history and great trivia associated with it!
Oh, and give me "Now is the Time" anyday!

No - sorry - false alarm! CoP is still open. I just wish they would bring back the song that replaced the original - I quoted the wrong one in my first post - I meant to say, Now is the time, Now is the time, now is the best time of your life' -- i could go on
Isn't it interesting in the different messages in the two songs for CoP - the original (and current) song is all about tomorrow being where great things await -- where as the interim song was all about Today being great. -- I think that is interesting. Of course, the second song was made to tie into the corporate sponsors marketing push at that time. but still I find it interesting.
The good old days - full of hope for tomorrow
the 'everything now' age of the 80's - NOW is the TIME
anyway

On our last trip it wa closed. DD offered to borrow Granny's shotgun and "convince" the cast members to let us ride (ala Family Vacation) :->

Speaking of closed attractions... When I went last week, Timekeeper was closed (again)... i think I hear the death knell sounding for that one...
Every time I go, it's closed....
(OK, nothing to cry about.. just wanted to try that smilie)

I agree - I think Timekeeper is on its last legs. Actually, when my family was all down here a couple of months ago, I 'forced' everyone to ride Timekeeper and CoP. I figured, if they are open, we better ride them, because they most likely will not be next time we are all there.
Although, I have been expecting CoP to stay closed for years, and it keeps coming back. It makes me happy.

I gre up in LA so alot of my early Disney park memories revolve around Disneland. Sometimes when I think about a "lost" attraction, I have to go to the DL site and make sure I'm not mis-remebering!! (gee, MK hasn't been the same since they tore down the Matterhorn
)
Mission to Mars is one of those that I miss (and I also miss it's previous DL incarnation - Rocket to the Moon!)
The # 1 attraction I miss - 20000 leagues! I loved those submarines.
The Skyway
The old Tiki Room (though the new one is fun)
Breakfast at Tony's Town Square...
The Magic Shop
The Tobacco Store (I used to love the smell and they had some great cigars - I know it's not politically correct....)
-
Oh yeah - the Tiki room. I miss the old one!
We live in Florida and a lot of local businesses sell Tiki Huts... each time we drive by them my daughter (who is 6 and never saw the old one) sings 'In the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki room'. It makes a dad smile. :-)

Marty,
First, let me personally welcome you to the DisneyWorldTrivia forums!
I hope you enjoy the boards, and I invite you to spread the word and tell others about the site!
As for the old rides, a lot of poeple look at me funny (as they often do, when I mention Mission to Mars (and dare I say, Flight to the Moon!). But when you said the old House of Magic, that's the one that really brings back fond memories. I remember going into the small, dark shop with my dad as we were getting read to leave the park. Trying on the old rubber masks, and maybe even being treated by my dad to a little magic trick to pratice back in the room. Man, those were the good old days. :-)
And you know what? I'd take one moire trip to Vulcania on 20K Leagues before I rode Winnie the Pooh ANY day!

My wife wanted me to post her favorite lost MK attraction. I definatley agree that it was better than what replaced it. She was (and still is) a big fan of Mr Toads Wild Ride. I mean, come on... it is a Disney ride where you die and go to he!l? Why wouldn't everyone like it? :-)

I'm with your wife on this one!!!
Many people say, "who the heck was Mr. Toad???" but I loved that ride!! It cheesy, silly, and neitehr funny nor scary, but it was a lot of fun, and brings back great memories of riding it as a kid!
Remember the little red devils? The weasels? The Judge and...

My wife and I have a fair aount of Disneyana stuff - but her #1 wish is to be able to buy one of those devils from that ride. We watch ebay all the time, just waiting for the day they decide to sell one. :-) afterall they have sold space mountain and peoplemover vehicles -- why not a devil.
 >:-)
