Fake Disney retail replaces the Disney Store in Chicagoland Mall
My DD and I met some relatives for lunch at a Mall in the Western Suburbs of Chicago. After the massive closing of the Disney Stores this one was a Native American Store for a while. All the outside Disney Stuff was left in place as was all the rugs, shelves, displays etc. Disney basically took their left over merchandise and bolted. :mickeykid
Well today while we were strolling and gabbing I missed this totally but DD stopped me to look. A totally new Fake Disney Store move right on in using the store as if it was a real Disney Store.

We didn't get to go in but the merchandise in the display window was poor knock offs. I hope to get back out there to see what is actually inside the store. Bet it can fool some folk though with Disney Store abandoning all the interior and exterior infrastructure. The Name on the Sign is the Tip off to true fans.

Surprised they can actually open with the name.

Wow, now that is funny! I smell a lawsuit coming...
My local Disney Store closed a while ago, but it was replaced by an AT&T store, not something like this!

Yeh... I gotta feeling this place will not last very long... Better get back there soon... It might not be there next time you visit...

Might just be trying to capitalize for the holidays, now that their old Disney store is gone. My guess is that they stick around through Christmas, then close up Christmas Eve so that people can't make returns.

Kind of like the Halloween costume shops...
Re: Fake Disney retail replaces the Disney Store in Chicagoland Mall
Could be. Haven't made it back over that way yet to see what they actually have in there, the stuff in the window was 2nd rate, like what you find off-site stands in Florida.
Was weird though with all the Disney stuff up on the quality displays of Disney Store of yesteryear.

This is quite interesting. Probably some group of people looking to make a quick buck. And basically what supernova said...look at the time of year. And, the sad part is that many people would fall for the stuff there as being real.
Almost kind of sad to see something like that...ESPECIALLY if it replaced an actual Disney store.

Hey, this time of year, and the economy still being what it is, I'll buy a reasonable replica of a Disney item at a fraction of Disney pricing if it'll mean a few extra gifts under the tree.

I'm curious enough to go back there, normally I'm not in that neck of the woods. It was a cute Disney Store, beautifully themed tile on the outside and good set up to the Disney Store, it was quality in its day. I guess that is what Disney gets for not getting a dumpster and clearing out the place when they left.

This is just plain weird to me.

You have a point. I would just prefer quality over quantity, though. Just my take...I don't really overload on collectible type stuff (my Vinylmation collection is at a stand still now :dizzy:).
The whole concept of it being there is still quite interesting.

I definitely would want to see it; and in your case, see it again, if you can. Just for the heck of it. I guess it was only meant to be that this would take up the space after the real Disney store was gone.

it reminds me of the old school Disney stores of the early 90's... thats what i see in the picture at least... the ones with the moveables near the ceilings and the sign that looked like it had wings...

That store was there a long time so I'm thinking that you are right in your time frame.
The one in Woodfield, the mega mall moved into a new space to update the look. It went from quality to cr*p overnight and still is. I'll take a train into Chicago in a few weeks, can't wait to see how the newer of the two turned out in the downtown area.
