I liked it better actually. More laid back, relaxing, not as many lines... I loved the concept, and I really miss the place.

River Country is one of my big regrets. On my first visit to WDW in 2001 it was still open and I just wished I'd have gone before it was lost forever

I don't know if it is true(Lou can you help?) but a skipper on the boat from MK to Wilderness Lodge told us there a problem with the chlorinated water mixing with the lake water so it had to close.

Has anyone got any pics I would love to see more of it?

Wow, those pictures are great. How did you get them and would someone mind telling me why River Country closed to begin with? The reason is escaping me at the moment.

My family and I had been to River Country a couple of times. I always enjoyed it. After the hustle and bustle of the parks (including the other water parks) I got the most relaxing feeling there. It reminded me of a cross between something Tom Sawyer-ish and a good old-fashioned New England picnic spot. They even had real sand! Not the trucked in pretty white stuff. We used to pack our own picnic lunch (read PB&J!), play away the afternoon and then go to the Trail's End for a pig-out at dinnertime. That was some of the best food on Disney property! It just made for one real relaxing day. I want it back!

I believe it closed in late 2001/ early 2002 due to the slow down in tourism after September 11th. It also was lagging behind the other two water parks in attendance at this point because many people deemed it the least 'thrilling' or exciting.

I remember going to River Country a couple of times when I was a kid (early '80s) and absolutely loving it. It was a relaxing charming, transforming place. It really slowed down the entire Disney world pace for a while. It had some of the best food that I recall from back then (but what food isn't great when you are like 8 years old?). When I was about 12 we went to Typhoon Lagoon instead and had a great time, but it wasn't ever quite the same. River Country really was an entirely different pace and feel than anything else in Disney World at that time.
