also 295 in Richmond has some restaurants just off the Tappahannock, Mechanicsville Turnpike exit... Cracker Barrel, Taco Bell, I wanna say an apple-bees or Ruby Tuesdays just a little further up the road in the wal mart shopping center, but I'm not completely positive on that. Also if you don't take 295 there is Cracker Barrel in Ashland (before you get off for 295) and one in Chester, VA. I go to that one all the time. It's a little hard to get in and out of though. Gas and everything is near there too. and every other exit I mentioned.

Agreed. At least the construction in GA was for widening, which will (hopefully) result in an overall improvement -- someday. I've got about three years worth of that sort of thing to look forward to on I-95 in my area. Don't fret though, it's well south of I-4 where I assume those of you driving from points north leave I-95 to cut over to the World.

This reminds me of another tip. If you're a AAA member, you can use their online "Trip Tik" service to generate and print customized maps and directions of your travel route. It's the same thing you used to be able to get in the branches but it's done online. The one way in which it's better than MapQuest or Google Maps is that one of the customizations you can add to the map is information on road construction along your travel route. You may not always be able to do anything about it -- as you said the construction zone in GA pretty much consisted of, well, GA -- but sometimes it's nice to know anyway.

We always drive as well from ny, we pretty much go straight down 95, but in DC we take some kind of beltway, we did it differently this year with our GPS system. My best tip for you is if you like good fried chicken for a very reasonable price try Ralph's in North Carolina (I think exit 173) they have a really good buffet as well. We also like Clarks in Santee, South Carolina, it's a nice restaurant with good fried chicken. They also have a motel next to the restaurant with nice rooms (ask for one of the newer rooms). I love to drive down, it's the drive home I hate
It's kind of fun to do the impossible!

Re: Hello from New Jersey!! Driving

Me and my fiance drove to WDW for the first time last summer from Norfolk, VA. It was an 11 hour drive but it was a lot of fun (although that was when gas prices were 4.39). I am from the West coast and have driven to DL from Seattle several times (22 hours) so 11 hours seemed like nothing. I really liked the drive and how we crossed into several states I had never been to before. We never ran into traffic, stopped at the outlets on the way down and at ate at crystal burger many times. We are going to drive in December when we head down for our wedding. Easier to pack my dress and gifts. I like driving and really like having a car in Orlando. We are taking a drive to Cape Canaveral while we are there too.

    Hi,

I am very familiar with Norfolk, my husband was stationed there when he was in the Navy. We used to go to Williamsburg and Busch Gardens alot when we were dating. I think it is so awesome that you are getting married in WDW. I wish you the best of luck!!!
