Enter stage left, pursued by a mouse

    Hi there!

Although I'm a long time lover of Walt Disney World and the men behind the magic, I'm new here, and I wanted to introduce myself and say "hi."

I feel a bit awkward taking the spotlight here - I tend to be rather shy in social situations, even online ones, although my students would scoff at the idea of me as shy at all. I am a teacher - it is my calling and my joy - and I usually find myself teaching even when I'm not in a classroom. I am currently a professor at a community college here in Central Florida teaching both Humanities and English.

Living in Central Florida (about 1.5 hours NW of Orlando), my husband (the light of my life) and I are annual passholders at Walt Disney World and visit the parks about once or twice a month. When he's working, I am occasionally a solo traveler. I'm pretty experienced in the ways of Disney, the resorts, and the landscape of the "world." I love sharing that knowledge and helping others wherever I can, which is part of the reason I'm here.

The other part of the reason, of course, is the WDW Radio Podcast. A few months ago, I got my first MP3 player and my first SmartPhone, and I delved into the world of podcasting. With my passion for Disney and theme parks, I quickly began trying out different podcasts, eager to pick up the latest news and fill my daily commute with Disney! And, in the hodgepodge of podcasts, WDW Radio became one of my favorites.

I am a lover of magic, and a passionate believer in the Disney tenets of hope and wonder. I know all the corporate ugliness, and I'm aware of the machinery behind the magic. But I choose to believe in the wonder; I revel in the magical moments and the hope that Disney gives us that somewhere, out there, a place we've never been can welcome us home because it is "home" on a deep level of comfort and safety the world usually denies us. So many of the podcasts I listened to gave news, critique, and sometimes snark. I wanted honesty and joy, and I found that in Lou's show.

I guess that's why I'm here. I'm hoping to share some of that wonder with the other people on the boards. I am shy, but I would love to share my knowledge, my experience and my enthusiasm. I hope that maybe I'll find a "fit" here with all of you. I do keep a blog centered on Disney - Imagining the Impossible, and I'll share my Disney experiences there as well as here in hopes that maybe someone else will find them useful.

So...hi y'all! I hope I can help out here, and I'll be lurking, trying to find the magic wherever it shimmers, and making my own where the shadows fall over our lives.

Welcome! I am still a newbie here, but still like to talk to people. I must say that I love your introduction and will say that we have English in common. I graduated as an English major 1 year ago and am starting to have a little withdraw (though thinking back on some of the topics, essays, and research....maybe not quite yet!). I am very jealous that you live so close to the World. I live in Central Indiana and that is either a 3 hour plane ride or 15 hour car ride. Needless to say, we never drive! Enjoy your time here on the boards and don't be shy. Especially join in on the video chats with Lou and follow him on Twitter!
