| Alternatives to High Traffic Areas and Big Cities!! Hello everyone! So I was thinking about this the other day, what if there was a thread where people could share little secrets on how to get around Big Cities and high traffic areas on the way to WDW if you drive. And so I thought I would make it! Well If you drive and have a little secret or not a secret at all and just want to share then please share with the rest of us. I live in Chesterfield, VA so I really know how to avoid 95 in Richmond and Petersburg! So if you could give what the road is and what the traffic is like and a description on what you can find on the road or bypass as far as Resturants and Hotels, gas and so forth. I'll give two examples.Road: Interstate 295 It takes you off of 95 right before you get into Richmond if your coming from the North. This is a great alternative if you don't like high traffic areas and the downtown congestion. 295 takes you around Richmond and Petersburg! It has some Hotels, gas, and Resturants like Cracker Barrell (sp?). And the speed limit is 65 all the way throught I belive. It takes you out just under petersburg so you don't have to deal with all the speed changes and things. You can also use this on the way north from the south and you can use it if your coming from the east aswell. Traffic is very light most of the times and never very hevy except when people are trying to get back on 64 east to VA Beach in the summer time. But if you stay in the far left hand lane then you don't run into any traffic at this time. Road: 288 This road is a great alternative if your coming from the west via 64. It takes you south to 95 just before Chester VA. You will still have to go through Petersburg tho. You can find Hotels and Resturants including Cracker Barrell. And Gas aswell. Its 65 mph on this road to. Its in good condition and it takes you away from the 64, 95 interchange which has alot of work going on right now. Traffic is light and its a fairly new road. Traffic can pick up at rush hour of course but its never bumper to bumper. So this is what I have to offer instead of going through our Big Cities and high traffic areas. So if you could help any of us that drive to WDW then please share your info and opinions on the roads you have takin as an alternative to 95 or other roads. Thanks!!! |

| Fastpass Holder | I drive a 100,000 plus miles a year. I can tell you all kind ideas how to get around just about anywhere in the lower southeast states BUT When I'm on vacation wherever I go , I fly. With the price of gas these days, all it takes a little homwork between Priceline, hotwire, expedia etc..... its also cheaper. |
