    Which is the Magic Kingdom?

The world has always know Walt Disney World as the Magic Kingdom. However, on the West Coast, Disneyland is also mentioned as the Magic Kingdom. Julie Andrews refers to Disneyland as the Magic Kingdom in Wishes, while some literature also gives it this name. Does it really matter since they are both Disney?
    How do you see it?

Has it? I know it's been referred to Disneyland, but hasn't it always been referred to as the Magic Kingdom as well? I don't know for sure, but on my first trip it was referred to as both. I never had a problem with it, eventhough my first Disney vacation was to WDW.

I don't think it really matters, at least not to me. Disneyland is the original Magic Kingdom and will always be special and unique. I love this park to the point I prefer it to the MK in WDW.

I'm also of the mind that there are currently 5 Magic Kingdoms:
    1. DL
    2. WDW
    3. TDL
    4. DLP
    5. HKDL

This is a great point! Thanks for bringing it up! Maybe a better question would be, which is your Magic Kingdom?

Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World is my "home" park.

Re: Which is the Magic Kingdom?

Actually, I remember reading in Since the World Began that Anaheim has always officially been Disneyland. The only "official" Magic Kingdom is in Walt Disney World.

    Out of the book:

"The Magic Kingdom is, and always has been, the name of the Disneyland-style theme park that was the cornerstone of the original Walt Disney World Phase One development. Although Disneyland is also sometimes secondarily called 'Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom,' that has never been Disneyland's 'official' name."

I guess this is my very long answer to why I chose Walt Disney World!

Re: Which is the Magic Kingdom?

Officially the the park names are as follows:

    Disneyland Park (California)
    Magic Kingdom Park (Florida)
    Disneyland Park (Paris)
    Tokyo Disneyland (Tokyo)
    Hong Kong Disneyland (Hong Kong)

This is very clear in all Disney documents (Maps, Times Guides, etc.) and the official websites.

However there are may references to Disneyland Park as "A Magic Kingdom" throughout Disney history; some by Walt himself. Disneyland cast members often refer to their park as "Magic Kingdom" as well.

Re: Which is the Magic Kingdom?

I think that "Magic Kingdom" is more of a nickname for Disneyland, than an official name. Whereas, at WDW, "Magic Kingdom" is the official name of the theme park.

WDW is my real MK. I always say just Disneyland or Disneyland Park.
The Golden age never was the present age… but with human liberty we can fulfill the promise and meaning of America. To everyone a chance. To all people, regardless of their birth the right to live, to work, to be themselves, and to become whatever their visions can combine to make them. This is the promise of America...And I foresee the American adventure to continue for a long, long time!

Re: Which is the Magic Kingdom?

It never really mattered to me personally. I figured Disneyland was simply the westcoast Magic Kingdom but I think WDW has the official Magic Kingdom while where Disneyland is concerned, it's just a nickname. I've heard Disneyland referred to as "The Magic Kingdom of Disneyland" here and there
