Quantity doesn't necessarily = quality. Just because Disney has the room and capability to build more and more, doesn't mean it'll be another instant classic. Disney's had it's fair share of duds recently.
Also, to say Universal doesn't have the attention to detail like Disney is crazy. Go check out Islands of Adventure, walk around and smell the roses, and we'll talk later. The lovely people at Universal Creative were former WDI, which gives IOA a little bit of a Disney feel with a unique spin on it, which I really love.
Anyways, getting back on the original topic:
The new revamped plans for Fantansyland are looking better, but still think there's room for improvement. Is this an answer to HP in IOA? Most definitely. Now after Fantasyland is done, it's Universal's turn to step up to the plate and wow us all as theme park goers, and they usually do a fantastic job. The competition between them is a win - win for us

Most definitely... not Universal Studios perhaps, but Islands of Adventure is crazy detailed and the HP part in particular is MUCH more detailed than anything at Disney World. Just walk into the stores! The joke shop has whoopee cushions, games, things you read about in the book that were sold at the joke shop... and not a single "Harry Potter" t-shirt. It's all completely authentic and unique to each shop in the area, something Disney is going terribly downhill with lately.

Exactly. I wish people would just get over it already.

a bit off topic but i wonder how the Universal bigwigs feel about the fact that they have Disney characters in their park...?

Re: New fantasyland,can it compete?
It's apparently a mixed bag.
But like I said, they've already had their contingency meeting with UC concerning the issue.

One can only wonder what they'll do with that space when their current contract expires. I'd be ticked off to see Spiderman go away.

Re: New fantasyland,can it compete?
It certainly puts Universal in a very unenviable position. Much like Jaws over at USF, attempting to remove Spiderman (even if there was no alternative) will cause a ridiculous amount of damage.

Re: New fantasyland,can it compete?
i think it would require them to re-theme the entire area... and i would believe each attraction can be re-themed... spiderman would be the toughest though...

Re: New fantasyland,can it compete?
You know what, I love HP. I read all books available at the time when I was six. I waited in line for EVER at midnight, to get the seventh book. I can be murderously angry when they leave something out of the films. I would sell each of my brothers souls just to walk around Hogsmead (and not even the real one, the one at Universal would do in a pinch.) But Disney will win out every time. Call it loyalty, old-fashioned, or special in the way that it gives off that creepy stalker vibe. Disney wins. I will miss Toontown, though.

mike once again you hit the nail on the head... im with ya all the way on this one... Universal is content being the second fiddle to the family getaway...

Re: New fantasyland,can it compete?
I'm hoping the expansion plusses up MK enough to encoursage some TLC to the other parks. it would be good if the powers that be used the opportunity to throw in some WOW factor items, maybe showcase new technology, max out some theming (the 7 Dwarves rollercoaster) I love the dueling Dumbos idea. Is this an answer to HP no, it won't have the sma eimpact but it will improve the overall quality of MK if done right.
