    Disney Books

Has anyone ever tried to write and or publish a book on Disney? (I know there are people on here that have already published one.) I have but writing it became hard and then you have copyrights coming from every direction. Anyway I was just wondering. (Considering writing another one.) Oh by the way I'm new.

    Welcome to the boards!

I would try talking with Lou or Steve (authors of the WDW Trivia Book and the Hidden Mickeys Guide, respectively). They have published a book, and they'll know all about the copyrights.

Pretty much anyone can write a book about Disney without their permission or blessing. Anyone can write an editorial that either explains or critiques something. Copyright issues come into play when you want to use photos (even your own), graphics, logos, or Disney characters. Disney has to give their blessing before you can use these items.

I know our publisher (same as Lou's and Steve's) submits all of their books through Disney's legal department for a thumbs up/down. Sometimes they will give permission to use some pictures, a lot of pictures, or they will flat out say "no". We know that Disney won't look at our book with great affection, so we did not even bother to put in photos. Sometimes it just isn't worth the hassle.

So anyone can publish a Disney book without actually going and telling Disney? (Without pictures or characters.) Another question of mine is basically the entire publishing system. What is your publishing system like?
