So, just been flicking through The Sun (UK newspaper) and there was a tiny little article at the bottom of one of the pages, saying that Tom Hanks is going to be playing Walt Disney in a movie about the struggles Walt encountered whilst making Mary Poppins. Emma Thompson has also been noted as playing PL Travers. First I've heard of this one!! Anybody else know anything? Had a look on IMDB, but couldn't find any information at all... :no:

Tom Hanks is to play Walt Disney in a new movie. The 'Forrest Gump' actor has entered talks to appear in 'Saving Mr. Banks' - a film exploring the making of 'Mary Poppins' - as the studio boss, with Emma Thompson in line to play Australian author P. L. Travers. The movie follows the true story of Disney's 14-year courting of the author for the rights to the Mary Poppins character. Travers was displeased with the 1964 film, which starred Julie Andrews as the magical nanny, particularly the animated sequences, and was upset by the way the material was treated by Disney. Meryl Streep had initially been linked with playing the author in the film. Disney are making 'Saving Mr. Banks', with 'The Blind Side' director John Lee Hancock at the helm.
Sounds like it's a long way from becoming a confirmed feature, but sounds like it could be interesting... especially as Tom Hanks is my fave actor!
There couldn't be a worse choice to play Walt. He looks, talks, acts, and sounds nothing like him. He'll forever be Forrest.
Also, I don't know if anyone's read, or even heard of for that matter, "Mary Poppins, She Wrote" by Valerie Lawson. Part of this book goes into the Disney interpretation of Mary Poppins. I can see this movie, if it is indeed real, true, etc., angering the Travers family very greatly.
Tom Hanks can do no wrong in my book. I hope this is true!
Yeah, I personally love Tom Hanks. Although I have to agree with WDW4Ever in regards to the Travers family being possibly angry about this movie. Everybody knows how difficult it was for Walt and the team to work with PL Travers and I think it's fair to say that in most cases when telling the Mary Poppins story, she hasn't come across as the most likeable lady, regardless of how wonderful her stories were. It is going to be a mighty task to put this film together without not offending her family.
I hope that's not true. I despise Tom Hanks. Absolutely no use for that guy, him and his stupid yell.
