Hallelujah! WDW, A complimentary Wireless Internet (WiFi) Pilot program

I can see both sides of the debate. A couple of years ago, we decided not to go to WDW because I was working on an advanced degree and needed to submit papers to my professor during our summer semester. This past summer, my husband's business had a problem and he had to forward a file to someone. We had to drive around until we found a place where he could get WiFi. Not fun.

This is great news. Hubby can't be out of touch from his buisiness even while on vacation. It always bugs me that some places still charge astronomical internet rates.

so i am a little confused. i have a cricket usb broadband so i can connect anywhere to the internet. i pay each month for service. would i have to pay disneys service fee to use my own laptop while down on vacay?

A complimentary Wireless Internet (WiFi) Pilot program is in effect at a limited number of areas of select Walt Disney World resorts.

Some wag had a great Tweet about this a week or two back...

words along the lines of

"Nice to see WDW is now offering something that most Holiday Inns had years ago. What's next? Color TV?"

Priceless! Except at the Holiday Inn you can use the WiFi in your room not just in a bar, lobby or pool side.

I get it free with DVC (though not wireless). I wound up driving to Walmart and picking up a 60-ft cable, which I bring down on every trip. Now I might not have to anymore, but it does (did?) help a lot. The plug was always in an odd spot and I just wanted to use the laptop on the dining room table. One time they gave me a corner suite and the place was huge. The cable came in real handy that time, as the plug was on the other side of the room.

Why do I get the feeling the only research they're going to be conducting is the total of register receipts for that 30-day period. "What? People were spending more time in their rooms than in the parks spending money? No more free internet!"

What's sad is that's probably true (both them checking to see if spending changed AND the fact that people probably did that). Us, the only thing I'd love to have the free WiFi for would be to write up a trip report each night before bed to post here. LOL

Nearly every other random hotel chain offers complimentary WiFi, even if it's just in their lobby (especially true of convention-geared hotels, where since a company is usually financing a guest's stay, they'll charge for everything from WiFi in the room to parking in their garage). Disney can give free interntet too. They just choose not to.

Free WiFi in the rooms would be great. I would be able to write up a TR, check on things at home. ( I can't just pick up the phone and call due to the massive time difference and the international roaming charges!)

Really? You honestly think free internet in room would make people spend more time in their rooms? In DisneyWorld?
