| * DING! * Airfare Savings... *MAC Update* DING! is a program from Southwest Airlines. You download it to your computer and it runs in the background while you surf the web. An icon that looks like the tailfin of a SWA jet appears in the taskbar of your screen. When bargain fares become available, you will hear a "ding" similar to the sound that precedes any announcement that the airline staff makes, as in "DING!" "The captain has turned off the fasten your seatbelt sign. You are now free to move about the cabin." The little tailfin icon will also have an envelope over it, indicating that a new fare announcement has been made (just in case you were away from your computer when it DING'd). Click on the icon in your taskbar to open up the announcement. You then need to click on the actual announcement to see what fares are on special for what routes and dates. Not all routes will have a DING! fare everytime there's an announcement. DING! fares are available for a very limited time period. I got one yesterday afternoon (PIT to MCO) that ended at 8 pm Central Time. And they usually go quickly. After checking a couple of dates, the fares quickly became "unavailable". With DING!, you snooze, you lose. I got DING'd last week for PIT to MCO, $39 one-way. I'm goin' to Disney World! You can download DING! to your computer here: Click here for DING! ![]()

| I LOVE the commercial for Ding!, with the guy jumping over all the cubicle walls and falling over people's desks when he hears the Ding! In general, I love Southwest. Almost anytime I fly to and from school, I try to fly SWA. I can usually manage between $49-79 one way using internet fares, and that's usually a direct flight too. The alternative is to fly Delta or something right out of Daytona Beach, which saves me from having to commute to Orlando, but it means I have to make a stop in Atlanta, and be charged a minimum of $300, often it's much higher than that. Hooray for low-cost carriers!

| Annual passes should be classified as a weapon of wallet de-massification. |
