    NY Disney Store

People sometimes ask why I love Disney so much and it's hard to explain to someone the magic that we're all a part of when they just don't understand.

I hope this video will help me with future inquiries.

    Re: NY Disney Store

Very neat video. I think it would help many people understand.

I think I would enjoy that store more if it wasn't so dang crowded all the time. Some neat collectibles on the 2nd floor, typical shirts and what not on the first. Not a fan of the Mickey/Disney NYC stuff, looks just tacky. Other than that...it is a must-see for any Disney fan.

    Re: NY Disney Store

And I've got a slightly different spin on it. You're absolutely right about the layout. They really need to change up the first floor plan. Then while I was walking through one day, I realized that it's not meant for hard core Disney fans. They stuck it right in the heart of Times Square (two floors on Broadway... or is it 7th... that intersection is stupid - no less... their rent must be insane), it's geared toward tourists who are also Disney fans. Hence the placement of the NYC stuff front and center. If they were gunning for locals, the selection of NYC-themed items would be smaller. I wonder if Disney has bothered shipping up those zip code collectors that they use at the front of the parks to see where their guests are from. If so, I would love to know how the average daily visitor count would be from here in the five boroughs.

To me, the must-visit store was the World of Disney store. That place was awesome. Three floors of everything from your typical t-shirts (I never visited the back of the first floor... all of the fairy and princess pajamas and t-shirts took up a lot of space and was hidden behind the elevators) to high-end collectibles and paintings, to some random park merchandise. And I loved the murals on the escalator walls (being a villains fan, I loved the huge Cruella statue on 3, the Wicked Witch face and apple on the elevator, and the villains in the attic at the top of the escalator on 3).

It was really a shame to see that place close down. Then again, Disney had a few of their regular Disney Stores across the city, and slowly & quietly they all closed up, too.

    Re: NY Disney Store

I barely remember the NYC World of Disney, as the last time I went there I was very young. But I've always heard only good things about it after.

Basically the 1st floor of the Time Square Disney Store is a tourist trap, and the 2nd floor more of a regular Disney store. I think it can be improved...but the novelty of it being in Times Square makes it a must for a Disney fan when in NYC. (I don't go into Manhattan much, even though I live only like 20 minutes away...that city frustrates me way too much.)

But, the post I think was just focusing on the video posted. And you can't take away that it's an awesome video.

    Re: NY Disney Store

Just watched the video. What a crock. Disney paid NYC to close off Time Square (the first two seconds of the film gave THAT away... two taxi cabs and not a single other car in the middle of Times Square????). Then every person in that video was there as part of the commercial. If they shot random footage of people walking by (yes, I understand the need to pay them as extras, but still...). The reactions were posed and directed. Neat little video with effects, but the people weren't real. They were, for all intents and purposes, employees. Alas...

I may have missed it but, are you assuming that is correct or do you have some sort of inside knowledge?

Me personally... the first day I saw that video pop-up in my subscription list on YouTube I loved it. I watched it numerous times, even posted comments on it. I think it was just beautiful... even grabbed the music from it and tossed it into my Disney playlist. To me it just feels so magical... so... Disney. They have a way with their marketing for sure.

I was just there last week and actually got a nice Steamboat Willie Mickey shirt, which was a surprisingly low $19.50. It really isn't much different than any other Disney store..but of course it's worth it to go. Especially when it isn't all that crowded, like when I was in there. Gives you a chance to explore.

The one thing I can say is that...that video was definitely done at like 3 in the morning for about those first 30 seconds. There's no way you're blocking off Times Square during the evening. They probably could've pulled it off without blocking off Times Square then.

Other than that, it really is a neat video like Jenn said. Just got to look past the specifics of how the video was produced...because it's a really good marketing video that Disney fans can also appreciate.

And the song in it is Good Life by OneRepublic...it's a good song. Saw them in concert once...was very disappointed, they were not good live at all.

Yes, it's called "living in NYC". Times Square is NEVER ever empty. Ever. Not cars, not people. They filmed it overnight, and people appearing are not tourists who happen to be passing through. Whenever Disney films something, it is calculated. I work on 37 and 7. Saw the posters announcing the closure of the roads. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble. But it just ain't real.

Ahh, ok. I was 100% sure it was filmed in the overnight hours. I mean, I know that it's staged...but I don't need to recognize that fact while watching the video. Just my take. And...yea, Times Square is always mobbed.
