I had never thought of the similarity there.

Way before that deeper purple dinosaur, at least in the early to mid 1980's

I was about 2 or 3 when the other one came out, which would have made it 92 or 93, and Figment was there when Epcot opened, right?

No, I have the first video tape "the other one" every was in and it is from the 80's. I will have to locate it to find the exact year on it, but it was mid to late 80's. I just saw on another website that JiYI opened in 82 - so Figment is older.
