Trading with Cast Members

I just bought 5 pins off of ebay so that when I go to WDW in Feb I can trade them to cast members. Is it true that they have to trade with you? Is it all cast members or just cast members who are where pins are sold? Anything else I should know? I have never tried to trade before.

Also the five pins I got, say on the back cast lanyard.

There is a figment pin (2 of 4)
Sam the Eagle (4 of 5)
Unicorn Rows 21-29 (4 of 4) (which I have no clue what this is from)
Aurora (3 of 5) (which I might just keep!)
Minnie on a parasail (5 of 5)

Does anyone know if these pins are ones I should keep? What does cast lanyard mean in comparison to other pins?

I believe any cast member has to trade. We have a photo of my DS trading with a cast member for a DisneyQuest pin.

Okay, so I admit,I am not a Pin Trader and only knew my own experience.

I read in Disney on a Dime that you should look for a lot of Disney pins on Ebay to trade with castmembers for ones you really like.
I got those 5 pins for 10 dollars so now instead of buying a bunch of pins when I'm there I will just trade the 5 I have for ones I like more.

Castmembers do have to trade with you. That's okay because they don't belong to the castmember themselves, they really belong to the company. BTW, when I was just down there, a CM at the pinstation in central hub of epcot had a "SECRET PIN" which just means they turn it around so you can't see it, and you can only see it if you trade for it, and I got a brand new POTC dangle pin! I had just been looking at it too, for 10.50!

Here is my little tip for Cast Lanyard pins... They are are "worth more" because you can only get them if you are a cast memeber or if you traded a cast member for them.... There are some CL pins that have a hidden mickey on them such as this:



Some have a silver edge band around them instead of gold that your normally see if you purchased the pins yourself... I have the purple monorail that I traded for in NYC, then I also got:

I could tell those two were CL pins due to the Hidden mickey..

I also have the full set of Winnie the pooh and friends "head shots"

There was eeyore, Rabbit, tigger, piglet and Winnie.. So my hint for CL pins would be to look for the silver backing or edging since they probably won't show you the back of the pins because then you can for sure tell. And to know if you have recieved a CL pin look on the back for a stamp that says Cast Member Lanyard Series. It will be in addition to the Official trading stamp...
