Can you purchase a starter pack of pins containing 4 or 5 badges.
also is it true that if you want to trade with a CM they have no option but to trade.It sounds a great idea for kids to interact with CM's.

Cast members trade disney pins for disney pins. They are all very good about trading

Starter sets are available with 6 pins on them.

Check out http://eventservices.disney.go.com/pintrading/index and click on the online pin store and you can view which starter sets they carry in WDW.

Cast Member's will trade any Disney Pin for any other Disney pin, provided:

a) The pin has the Disney Copyright on the back, and
b) They are not already wearing the pin you are trying to give them.

They often disregard rule b) when trading with children. As they say, it's tough to say no to children.

To make it more fun for kids, look for cast members wearing green lanyards. Only children under the age of 12 (I think that's the age) can trade off green lanyards. They often put some nice pins there for the kids.
