Almost Time for Surgery

The tube down the throat is a pain in the... well neck. My mom just had a procedure and had the tube. Took a bit for her voice to come back, but pretty much back to normal. Nice that your home for the holiday's. Hope it's a merry one for you.

I was thinking about you and glad you are home and everything is fine and you are resting. I love that the first thing you wanted to do was shop- girl after my own heart.
Keep resting and let others do for you so you don't have any setbacks. You don't want to tire yourself out and end up with the flu or something.

You call taking it easy going shopping and out to lunch? And you were expected to leave the day of your surgery? Man, modern medicine reminds me of the mothers who gave birth in a field and finished plowing afterward! Glad to hear that the surgery went well. Please do take advantage of this time and rest. The harder you push to be normal the longer it will take to get there. We want you back soon, but not at the expense of your energy.

I echo what mini-V wrote. I had gallbladder surgery last summer- you really do need to take the time to rest. The tube down the throat was a pain but, with time, your throat will be fine. Also had the tapes holding the four incisions together- kind of weird not having any stitches, but it all worked out fine.

Glad all went well- you'll be ready for the holidays!!

Well just an update (since I put a really brief version in the random thoughts)...

The pathology report came back and although the tumor was benign, they did find cancer outside it on the thyroid tissue. The cancer is Papillary Thyroid Cancer (for those who like looking that stuff up). Once my voice has returned (IF it does) I'll be scheduled for a 2nd surgery to remove the other half of my thyroid. This means a lifetime of thyroid medication for me now... yipee!!! Then a week or so after the surgery I'll be going through radioactive iodine therapy. What a joy this will be... we literally have to fly our son up to NY with my parents because he can't be in the same house as me for a week after I take the pill (and we have no family here). I suppose the good news is it's incredibly treatable and the prognosis is excellent. The even better news is they are going to have to give me an over abundance of hormone for awhile because of the cancer so I'll probably be losing a bit of weight. Woot!

Jenn, I happy to hear your good, Im sorry to hear that it is cancer, more p's and p's coming your way, Im so glad its treatable.
