Today around 12:00pm a 2 story building collapsed trapping 12 construction works inside. It's just down the road from me in Chester Village Green. The upstairs are apartments /condos. And the bottom is commercial space. They have to make sure the building is stable enough to go in a check for the workers. They need alot of prayers! Thanks.

CHESTER, Virginia (AP) -- Part of a retail and residential building under construction in a Richmond suburb collapsed Wednesday, and authorities were searching for up to 12 workers who may have been inside.

A dozen workers may be trapped in a collapsed building in Chester, Virginia.






Chesterfield County Fire Lt. Matt Coffin said 911 dispatchers received reports that a dozen workers were inside when a 60-foot section came crashing down around noon.
But crews had not confirmed the workers were in the building, and a drywall worker told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that the workers were at lunch at the time of the collapse. Authorities at the scene did not confirm the worker's account, and said a search of the building could take hours.
"We cannot just go into a building that has collapsed because of the inherent hazards that are there," Coffin said. "We're going to take a very slow approach to this to protect our folks that are involved." iReport.com: Are you there? Send your photos and video
Emergency workers were attempting to stabilize the rubble. They brought in sound-sensitive equipment to detect any movements in the collapsed building while they attempt to shore it up. Some rescuers asked people on the scene to be quiet so they could listen to see if any noises were coming from the building.
Cindy Martin, who works across the street at Cotas Barber Shop, said she heard a loud noise and saw the building come down and people running out.
"It's only the grace of God them other guys got out," Martin said.

The two-story wood structure is part of Chester Village Green, a mixed-use development in Chester. The community is about 15 miles south of Richmond.

Thanks again for all the prayers and pixie dust. I go to that area a lot! And I was just down there a few weekends ago. It's about 10 min from me. It's so shocking that this has happed! I went into one of the condo's before and they are beautiful!

They are now saying that they think that it's less than 12 people trapped. And they evacuated everyone in the surrounding buildings.

Thank you all. Last night they found one man dead inside. They had to call of the search last night because of the rain we had. And now the other side of the building is leaning and might collapse as well.

Good news is that they don't think anyone else is in the building but they will resume the search this morning and then turn it over to the police. Thanks again everyone.
