    Remembering 9/11

I know this may be a difficult subject to face, but I did want to acknowledge the 10th anniversary of 9/11 in many special ways...especially since I live so close to NYC, the events had such a profound impact on myself and everyone that lives in my area. In less than an hour I'm skipping watching some football (which is difficult for myself to do), but to attend a much more important event as NC State is holding a memorial for those lost on 9/11/01. Always remember and never forget.

This is my facebook status currently:

"If you told me that the attacks of 9/11 happened 10 years ago today I'd tell you that you're crazy...it's shocking to think that was 10 years ago...let today be a day where we remember the tragic events that happened on that fateful day, and a day to remember those who we lost, and also a day to continue to support the men and women who continue to serve our country"

    Re: Remembering 9/11

Today I woke up as I do every morning. Said a silent prayer for my friends and family, with a prayer to those who served and sacrificed never forgetting what they've done.

Then I went along with my day as normal. Watched some football and baseball, had dinner with the family. And millions of American's went through the day normally too just as we have most days since September 11. The terrorists thought they could change our way of life and make us live in fear. They failed.

I whole heartedly agree. We stop to reflect remember (and of course never forget), but then we continue on with our lives. If we weren't to, then we've been defeated. With this thread I just wanted to acknowledge the day.

Here are a couple pictures from the ceremony at NC State's campus. A rough estimate of about 1,000 people, maybe a bit more, gathered at the Memorial Bell Tower at the edge of the campus. From what I've heard it was the biggest memorial gathering in the entire state of North Carolina. Only lasted 30 minutes, but there were multiple speakers who spoke both of reflection and hope. The ceremony ended with a fighter jet flyover.

I can remember dropping Cassidy off at daycare and then hearing on the radio how a plane hit the WTC. I automatically thought a small plane hit it and how could you not see that huge building in front of you.

It wasn't until later I found out what happened and how bad it really was.

The next day we were moving my unlce out of his place and the tv was the last thing we moved because we couldn't help but watch what was going on.

I was still on active duty and getting ready to deploy with a Marine Expeditionary Unit the following week. The attacks sure changed our deployment plans. What was nice however, was coming home from Afghanistan the following spring and taking the family to WDW as part of their Salute to the Military special.
