Tuesday morning, about 45 minutes after I got into the office (after a nice long weekend) I got a call from my step-mother telling me that my grandmother had passed away at 5am. When I was young we were close but as I got older, she was plagued with dementia and alzheimers and just didn't know who I was anymore. Still, she was the last of my grandparents to still be living so it's a hard pill to swallow to know that she's gone.
My father is a very typical man. He's not letting anyone see his emotions. He's pouring himself into the stuff that has to get done to help prepare for the funeral on Saturday and generally just playing "helper" to his sister who is a retired funeral home owner/director.
My grandmother has wanted to be with her late husband since the day he died. It's been hard for my father to handle because she's truely just wanted to die for about 20+ years. Still, he took her into his home (even built an addition onto it) when she couldn't care for herself and, whether he showed it much or not, really did love and care for her.
So I'm asking for P&P for him and for my family who is filled with people who bottle things up and then years later have emotional breakdowns when it comes to a head.
I had plans to come back and say howdy etc. etc. this week now that things are calming down (at least until next month) but obviously this week just hasn't worked out to that end. I hope you are all doing great. Be well and take a few minutes today to show your family, even if you haven't spoken to them regularly in awhile, just how much you care and are there for them.
Sometimes all you need is a reminder that out there lies a better place... a better world... a Walt Disney World.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I know it is difficult to go through for everyone. My mom's twin sister died in August and I see her pain all the time. I hope your dad has an easier transition. I will be praying for him and you all.
