Port Orleans: French Quarter or riverside???

I was lucky enough to get to the World a day early and there wasn't a room available where we booked at FQ but there was one at POR. We stayed there the first night and I really only took a brief walk through a part of the resort. I prefer FQ though.
FQ - one bus stop, easy to access everything, very compact, romantic yet lively and fun, I loved the music played over the speakers in the square, the ribs and potatos are awesome in the food court, has an elevator although we got 1st floor.
RS - has something like four bus stops, more spread out, very pretty and relaxed, does have a sit down restaurant and the bar seemed more lively, doesn't have elevators and we were on second floor, not a bad walk up the steps.
The bus stops first at FQ and the boat stops first at RS. I just loved the feeling at FQ more for some reason!

We just returned from POR for our June 07 trip to get the HM before it went down.

Had two families in tow with young children. They loved the pools and I loved the peaceful grounds and the space between buildings. We never heard any noise. We stayed in Magnolia Bend in the Oak Manor building on the 2d floor. Easy access to the common areas and my coffee each morning and beer each night.

My wife and I stayed at POFQ before children and loved it because it was compact (and reminded us of home). We stayed in Building 3 that year. I think that it had just opened when we went.

If you have a car, then bus stops shouldn't matter, because it is much quicker to just drive to the parks.

POR has more to offer if you're not limiting yourself to the parks. The bar and the sit-down restaurant are worth it in my opinion.

You won't make a bad decision at either resort.

I'm a POR fan. When i first went with my wife in 2000 that was where we stayed. We've been there 3 times since and have enjoyed each time. it always seem quieter to me, and not as spread out. I love the themeing and think the boat to DTD is great!

Of course I prefer the FQ. Being from Louisiana I guess I'm a little partial. And that's where my wife and I got engaged.

We just spent 1 night at FQ to close out our trip and thought it was really nice. We thought the pool was pretty big in comparison to other resorts - well other resorts not named the Yacht or Beach Club.

The overall feel of FQ was just very relaxing. The theming was great, one of the best themed resorts, IMO. All that from just one night.

Other than it being a little dark there, With all the iron and the heavy amounts of tree cover, It is a beautiful resort.

Wow, this seems really split. I have only stayed at French Quarter so I can't really comment on which one is better than the other. But, from my naive perspective it might depend on where you are from as to what you find more appealing/exotic.
