What makes the deluxe resorts better?
I've only stayed at the value ones and this past time POFQ(a moderate one). I noticed a big difference in the # of people and the amineties that the moderate offers....a bar, a nicer lounge, seems to be less people, a bar by the pool, I know at some they have a table service place.
What the advantage of the deluxe? I'm hoping to stay at the GF one day.

I'm looking forward to the answer to this one too. We stayed at the FQ last year too and I agree. I liked it better than the All Stars. I liked not having crowded buses or food courts. I am kind of a germophobe. I hate people getting way too close to my dance space.
I am really hoping that extra money I am spending to stay at the Boardwalk is going to be worth it. I guess we'll see.

We've stayed at Value (Pop Century), Moderate ( PO Roiverside and Caribean beach) Vacation Club (OKW) and the Wilderness Lodge. To me the difference really is the ammenities. Wolderness Lodge has great sit down restaurant, a great bar, good quick service and wonderful themeing. The extras such as boat rentals, modes of stransport to parks (there is a boat to MK), water pageant and th elike are all great plusses tot eh experience. It's all in the little extras.

ok this may be a silly question...I'm a freak about the textures of things...it's very strange I know...how are the linens? The towels(at least ours) at POFQ were scratchy

I didn't notice that the linens or towels were any better by resort type.

We're staying at our first deluxe next October (Wilderness Lodge). We've stayed at OKW and Corronado before. The deluxe are a lot more money. Not sure if it's worth it. Have been wanting to stay at the Poly but justifying the extra $ is hard. We only spend such a small amount of time at the resort. And even though they look cool, we won't every stay at a value hotel.

i had the same question...i have never stayed at a delux either...we are hoping maybe the trip after this one. However, I have stayed at 3 moderates and 2 values and I must say they have very different atmospheres. The whole family enjoyed all of them even though we dont spend much time in our room anyway. It all depends on how important the little extras are to you i guess.

I stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge in 2002 and it was amazing! The African theme was so awesome and it was really cool to be able to see the animals. That was definitly a benifit of this resort. They even had night vision binoculars to see the animals at night! Given the chance, I would stay here again in a heartbeat. I havn't stayed at another deluxe resort, so I can only vouch for AKL.

A Deluxe resort offers:
- larger rooms
- elaborately themed pools/slides
- great onsite restaurants
- room service
- valet parking
- character breakfasts
- better amenities

I agree with DVC Mike!
I would like to add:
More transportation choices. Monorail, bus and boats.
We normally stay at the POLY and became spoiled with the large rooms (especially in the newer longhouses).

I think there are also more special little things at the deluxe resorts - like the hula lessons and torch lighting ceremony at the Poly - that make it more enjoyable to just spend time at the resort and not always in the parks.
If you're going to Disney just to go commando-style all day in the theme parks, you may not get your money's worth out of the deluxe resort. You will benefit from the nicer rooms, Queen size beds, convenient locations and transportation, etc., but to really get the most out of it, you need time to explore the resort and enjoy its offerings.

I was just about to say the same thing. the wife and I usually stay at deluxe (in a month we'll be at Boardwalk) but the rest of my family prefers the value resorts. it's not that the wife and I are any more wealthy than the rest of my family, we just like to put more money into the things we're actually going to do more.
the rest of my family are all 100% park commandos. they wake up early, get to a park at opening, stay all day, and get swept out the door at closing. then they hit the sack (hard, I might add). their attitude is, "I'm not paying that much just to sleep!" and I agree with them. if I were like that, I wouldn't "waste" the money on a deluxe resort, I'd do like they do and put more money into have nice Park Hopper tickets with no expiration and dining plans and stuff like that.
the wife and I, on the other hand, may spend a few hours at the parks each day but then spend the rest of the day hanging out at the pool and enjoying the theming of the resort. we need more R&R time on vacation, so we budget more money towards that.
point is, if you are going to make the most of it, and take advantage of the amenities, it is worth it. if not, then it's not.
If we can dream it, we can do it

I generally go commando
but I will say I think I will most likely stay at moderates(except when I can splurge on a deluxe) I liked the fact that bus lines were shorter and food courts not as crowded
