Art of Animation Resort opening date officially announced
Walt Disney World has made it official, announcing (as we reported on June 13) the opening of Disney's Art of Animation Resort on May 31, 2012 with the Finding Nemo-themed family suites. The Cars-themed suites are currently scheduled for July 31, 2012, the Lion King-themed suites for September 30, 2012, and the Little Mermaid-themed standard rooms for December 31, 2012.
The resort is under construction on the site previously planned for Pop Century Resort – The Legendary Years (the current Pop Century Resort was to be designated The Classic Years). There will be a total of 1,120 family suites and 864 standard rooms when the new value resort is completed. Announced rates start at $240 per night for family suites and $92 per night for standard rooms.

Well, this is very disappointing. :faint: This is the first time I actually saw a date for the Little Mermaid section and it's 12/31/12. We're going early December and had hoped to stay there. Maybe we'll go to Pop and hope for a possible transfer if they have a soft or early opening.
Moving right along!!
It's this kind of theme that I love about Disney. No it's not as upscale as other hotels but it's meant for the guest who stays in value for economic reasons but still wants that Disney magic.
I am a value resort person all the way.We have stayed at all three Allstar Resorts -music 4 times, and 2 times at POP.We weren't too thrilled at Allstar Movies due to the fact that most families there had the toddlers and small children.By that time both of my girls were around 10-12 yrs old.We did like the movie theme and the decor, just not tons of little bitties everywhere.I love kids too!As for this animation resort, based on these pics alone,I am not seeing a big "gotta stay there" in the place. The theming is a little too childish for me and they "dumbed down" the decor. For a value resort,we will pick POP anytime. Now when I do stay at POP,I will walk across the bridge and check the place out though.
Wings dedicated to popular films “Cars,” “The Lion King,” and “The Little Mermaid” will now be opening sooner than you can imagine after the grand opening of the “Finding Nemo”-themed wing on May 31. Here’s the official schedule:
Finding Nemo - Family Suites - opens May 31
Cars - Family Suites - opens June 18 (originally July 31)
Lion King - Family Suites - opens August 10 (originally September 30)
Little Mermaid - Value Rooms - opens September 15 (oriingally December 31)
I'm out numbered 4 to 1 so the ladies will vote for the Little Mermaid wing.
Oh Yes!!!! We booked for Pop and just changed to AoA in the Little mermaid! I'm so excited I'm bouncing off of the walls. :yahoo:
I love the Portifino at Universal, so elegant. It seems Uni ripped a page out of Disney's book and created some more family suites at on steroids at another resort, the Portifino. Ugh.
The quality within is better than AoA but still........
Missing anything after your stay at AoA? :inquis:
