moderate vs value:big difference
i have stayed at both deluxe and moderate resorts and been very happy in both, but if i stay at a value resort will i be greatly dissapointed? is there such a gap between the moderate and value that if price isn't a huge problem, should i go with the moderate? or is there enough theme differences that the values need to be experienced? what do you all think?
thanks

Re: moderate vs value:big difference
We've stayed at Pop, ASM and POR and unless there was some incentive (like free dining) being offered to stay at a Mod I don't think I would pay the extra to stay at a Mod over a value, yes the rooms are slightly larger and you get an extra sink which I suppose is a benefit if you are a family (it's just the 2 of us) but I think the values in their own right are just as nice as the moderates. The moderates have lovely adult landscaping whereas the values have in your face fun landscaping. The mods also have a table service restaurant but that's never been a deciding factor for us either as we prefer the restaurants in park or at the deluxes.
I would say the biggest factor is personal preference on the theming of the resort and weighing up the extra cost if that is the type of theme you prefer (as usual it also depends how much time you will spend in room and resort) and also if the table service restaurant and slightly larger room are important to you.
We decided on All Star Sports for the first part of our May trip as the first week will be all about the parks so went for the cheapest option and as all our dining is centered around the parks, resort dining wasn't a factor and like I said there is just the 2 of us so room size isn't a factor and we find the value theming fun.
I do like the moderates I'm just not sure (for us) that they warrant the extra cost over a value to stay there (excluding any offers that are on)

Re: moderate vs value:big difference
I believe CSR is a big difference over a value because of the convention aspect of the resort. With CSR you get a few extras that the other mods do not have.
CSR has queen beds and the rooms have been recently renovated and are gorgeous. POFQ also has queen beds and POR is getting them next year.
CSR has a fitness center, spa, tanning beds, a sauna, salon, full menu room service and a night club.
CSR has a sliding wooden door separating the sink area from the room instead of a privacy curtain like the other mods.
CSR has the same toiletries as the deluxes (except GF). CSR has separate shampoo and conditioner instead of the shampoo/conditioner combo at the other mods and values (a small thing, I know, but it means I don't have to pack shampoo and conditioner).
CSR has the largest hot tub of the mods and one of the longest pool slides on Disney property. The pool, slide, arcade and playground area are great to have in this area as well.

Re: moderate vs value:big difference
I have stayed in all 3 categories. Values are fine but they always seemed a bit noisy to me. I prefer a quieter resort.

Re: moderate vs value:big difference
Loud for various reasons.
I compare it to a Clean Motel 8 to a Clean Hampton Inn. Everything from furniture, bedding, towels, TP and products in sink/bath area.
Some people are like Slinkies.
They aren't really good for anything,
but they still bring a smile to my face when I push them down a flight of stairs.
Friends are Gods way of apologizing to us for our families.

Re: moderate vs value:big difference
We always stay at the value resorts and here's why... we go to Disney to be at the parks and attractions, not stay in our room. We sleep there. We shower there. That's about it. Yes the rooms at the values are smaller but to be honest, my now 5 year old loves the theming. He didn't really think the moderates we've stayed at were anything special nor was he really impressed at all when we managed a stay at a 2 bedroom villa. Bottom line, for the difference in price and the fact that usually (sure everyone is different) people don't go to hang out in their room... value is great value!
Sometimes all you need is a reminder that out there lies a better place... a better world... a Walt Disney World.

Re: moderate vs value:big difference
I have always belived that allstar music is kinda in between a value and a moderate if you will.
Its hard to explain, but music just seems that way.
IMHO, if we want to upgrade...we goto deluxes and skip the mods.
The values are pretty darn nice and if im going to spend more monies....id rather just go up to deluxes.

Re: moderate vs value:big difference
I stayed at All Stars music for 1 night a couple weeks ago before checking into AKL. It was ok...was quiet BUT I didn't go looking around like to eat, swim, sightsee and all. I would imagine with a budget I see no problem staying there. Rooms were very comfy and ice cold like we like it. Had a couple bus loads kids there. Only heard them once running outside the door. But we had same thing happen at AKL too. My choice is for moderate is CSR then CBR in that order.
Side note..for about same money or less as Value resort..you can stay at Holiday Inn or Hilton etc in Downtown Disney area. You just have to keep checking on Mousesavers website. Of course you won't be able use EMH but they do have shuttles and is walking distance to DD to catch one of Disney buses.

Re: moderate vs value:big difference
Yea like BamaJenn said its a room to sleep and shower so why pay so much , but on the other hand the deluxe are themed alot nicer and the pools are nicer , so my solution would be to poolhop hehe

I agree. My parents are DVC members, and we usually stayed in Boardwalk Villas or Beach Club Villas. When I got married, they gave us points to stay in the Animal Kingdom Lodge villas for a night, but then we transferred to Pop Century for the next two nights. I've been fine in PC before, but the change from AKL to PC was noticeable, to say the least.
IMO, I'll probably stay with the Moderates (POFQ being my favorite in the category), unless we too become DVC members.
