Re: Leave those old mugs at home! New drink station currently being tested at WDW res
Actually we do/did exactly that... we donated them to AmVets (to whom we give bags of clothing and toys to at least every 2 months). Still, I'd much rather just not spend the $12.99 (or whatever) every trip. There is some merit to the mention of how it's the same regardless of your length of stay. Either way, I am not a fan of the 5 minute rule at all.

Just make the mugs reprogrammable with scanner activation/deactivation technology. Hit your bar code at the pump and fill 'er up. Next trip, reactivate.
Easy. It's done in connection with your room key, like everything else at WDW. The dates of your stay are printed right on your card. They can even sell them at the front desk during check-in. Lots of ways to orgainze this. Disney would rather continue to nickle-and-dime us to death.

I don't have too many mugs, either. But then, I'm one of those hold-outs who keeps using his old mug

Ha. It's funny that you expect they should just give you free soda for showing up. No offense, but what do you LIKE about Disney? I have been around this messageboard for about a month and the majority of your posts seem to be complaints against the many injustices that Disney has levelled upon you.
Re: Leave those old mugs at home! New drink station currently being tested at WDW res
Not everything is wine and roses, sir. Some of the posts around here appear to be made with rose colored glasses on. Disney can do no wrong. Well, I and a few other people here are around to remind everyone that they can, and do, do wrong. We're here to keep the rest of you honest. Now where's my free soda?

see now something tells me he wouldnt be here if he didnt LIKE Disney...
heres the point... Disney is attempting to fix an issue that has been long overdue in many peoples opinion... the issue is doing what works as being fair to people... all of us... if there is a way to have room keys, tickets, and much more placed onto our keys to the world cards then there is a way to add a drink setup as well... have a scanner for each guests card... mike i like the idea of charging guests $2 a day for fountain drinks... and then allow guests their refills that way... charging someone $12.99 whether they are in WDW for 2 days or a month is a bit crazy... i never had an issue because i figured that 8 days was worth the money... there is a way that makes it fair for everyone and allows for Disney to control the people who are messing with the honor system they thought worked...

Thanks Joe. Glad to know there's another sane here amongst the generally insane population. Also glad to see some people are clueless about the concept of "attack the post, not the poster". Dope.
Re: Leave those old mugs at home! New drink station currently being tested at WDW res
Well we now know how Disney will pay for the cost of the new drink stations:
Soda pop prices have gone up by $.40 per cup. Fountain Drink Prices were $2.19 and $2.49 now are $2.59 and $2.89.
I read that if a family of 4, each gets 5 beverages a day over a seven day vacation (likely in hot weather) the increased cost for beverages is $56 a day. So the $56 dollars per family should pay for the new drink stations.

Wow. Is this property wide or just at the resort(s?) testing the new drink stations?

From my understanding from a CM I know is they are working out the bugs at All Star and eventually moving to all self serve areas. In the parks it will keep people i.e., from buying a drink at the Epcot's Umbrella, holding onto cup and refilling at the American Pavilion. The paper cup will have a chip in it that will be activated at purchase and deactivate an hour later.

Re: Leave those old mugs at home! New drink station currently being tested at WDW res

With high priced drinks we take our trusty camelbacks... for those of you dont know what these are the are lightweight rucksacks that can hold from 0.5L to 3L of water. When empty we refill at a fountain. We can wear them on rides and have never been stopped taking them into parks. Saves us a fortune!
