*Uh-Oh* Many WDW & DL in Room Refrigerators Disabled

    *Uh-Oh*

Today Travel Agencies are receiving notices from Disney that SOME refrigerators are being disabled in guest resort rooms. The volume of SOME is not yet know, nor is the issue that caused the refrigerators to be unplugged with a note attached to the refrigerators from Disney.

Disney states that it intends to replace those refrigerator but it will likely take months to do so.
They also state that they will attempt to accommodate those guests that have a high priority need
    for refrigeration.

In our early days at Port Orleans and Dixie Landings we always bought a cooler for room when we stayed at the resort for a couple of weeks and tossed at the end of the trip. DH morning chore was to dump water and get more ice. Memories are now going to turn into deja vu. Hope the new ice machines can keep up with the rising demand.

    and the notice:

Due to a possible defect in the refrigerators in some of the Guest rooms at the Walt Disney World® and Disneyland® Resorts, as well as Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, Resort hotels at these locations have removed or temporarily disconnected Guest room refrigerators until the issue can be resolved.

Guests staying at these Resort hotels will be notified of the refrigerator removal via a letter in their room. Currently the schedule for replacing the refrigerators at these Resorts is expected to last several months.

    and updated notice:

We were just able to confirm that the fridges in the Family Suites at Disney's Art of Animation Resort, as well as the Family Suites at Disney's All-Star Music Resort, are NOT affected by this removal. So, if you have Clients staying in these rooms they WILL have a fridge.

Thanks Buzz. I wonder if Disney is just leaving the fridges in the room until they can physically remove them all?
Having them sitting there is such a temptation for some guests.......

We fly, but I have 3 mini fridges, welcome to college leftovers. Think I'd toss one in the back of the truck if I was heading down by car.

We have Amazon Prime, I can order one online for $58.99 and have 2nd day guaranteed delivery. If I was doing one of our longer trips I'd consider it and gift to a family on the way out. With the food courts and gift shops closing at earlier times than years ago we liked keeping snacks, fruits, cheeses in the fridge along with an assortment of beverages. Sometimes we'd pick up those pre-packed snacks from the food court in the morning and have them there for late night. Got use to that. At the very least I'd pick up a cooler until it is resolved.

Re: *Uh-Oh* Many WDW & DL in Room Refrigerators Disabled

Is WDW doing anything to compensate resort guests for the inconvience? Personally I am not that bothered but I can imagine that some folks will be unhappy that they have paid to stay in a resort with a fridge and now they don't have one. If you had a baby or a medical condition maybe? I know you can hire one, but that would mean paying twice in effect.

I expect there is a clause in the small print somewhere that covers them.

I think the cost of a fridge in the room is minimal so I don't think they need to compensate. I think they are trying honor those requests that have the need.

Yes, if you request one in advance and can't get one you will receive a $15 credit per room/night to cover cold food purchases.

Well $15 was the going rate the last time I saw them rented to guests at the Moderate Resorts. Fair.

Lasted update is up to 4 months for the situation to be fully remedied.

Medical need refrigerators maybe requested but will not be guaranteed.

I wouldn't say that $15 a day is much compensation. We had planned to spend around $40 for a week at Garden Grocer to deliver breakfast foods for us to save around $30 - $40 a day. Hopefully the fridge debacle is resolved by November.
