    Original Band at Tomorrowland Terrace

My recollection is that there was a live band called Tabasco that played for several years on the rising/falling stage where Sonny Eclipse is now. Does anyone have pics, details, advertisements, links, etc. to confirm?

    Thanks!

Thanks - this is my first post to any of the Disney forums on the 'net, even though we go to DW about once a month and I lurk on all the forums

I remember this pop band playing there when I was a kid (70's - 80's), but then there was nothing there for a while until Sonny came in.

Welcome to the Board! Yes, there used to be live bands. Did not know what the names were though.

How far into the 80's was this band there? I am curious if they were there when I first went to WDW - 1988.

Hi Princess Jas - I don't think that the live bands went into the late '80's, as I don't remember a band there in 1987 when I started going fairly regularly after high school. My last recollection of a band in Tomorrowloand Terrace was around 1981. Slightly off-topic, but what stage show did you perform in (looking at your sig)?

Here's the story of my performance mentioned in my signature.

My first trip to Disney was in the summer of 1988 when I was two years old. As many of you may remember, back then the MK had many stage shows in which they choose audience members to perform in. I saw the kids on the stage and wanted to do it so badly. My parents said I never stopped talking about it all year long - I kept reminding everybody that the next time we went to WDW I was going to "dance on stage with Minnie Mouse (she was my favorite character - she still is my favorite of the Fab 5)."

So in the summer of 1989 my family went back to WDW. My parents took me to where the show was early before it was supposed to start and asked a CM how they chose the kids to be on stage and if they were using any for this show. They told them that they needed a female child, but would not use anyone under the age of 7. But, my parents explained all that I mentioned in the previous paragraph and they let me be the girl.

By my request, Minnie came and got me from the front row in the audience when it was time (she was not the character that usually did that). On stage when the CM asked what my name was I said "Minnie Mouse ." Everyone laughed and Minnie acted flattered. Then I told them my real name. The CM then asked me if I was married and I said yes. I told them my husband was "Joe (this is my dad's name)." Everyone laughed again. Then the CM asked me if I thought he was my type and I said yes. Then the CM and I danced while he sang "Do You Love Me?". Near the end of the song, Donald as "Macho Duck" tried to steal me away from the CM. At the end of the song, Chip and Dale escorted me back to my parents. The rest of the day at the MK, everyone kept pointing at me and saying, "There's the girl who said her name was Minnie Mouse !"

This is the earliest event in my life that I can remember. My parents have this event on a video tape (they even showed it at my high school graduation party). As soon as I find the dvd they showed at my graduation party, I will put the tape of this on here.

And that is the story of my day as Disney's youngest cast member.

Way cool, Jas! What's not cool is that I had graduated high school a year before you were born.... Geez, how I feel old now!

Well I hope that somebody has a recollection of the band - I may post on wdwmagic as well.

You can post there if you like, but someone on here may be able to help you in a few days. Many of the other regulars are in WDW at Mouse Fest right now. I am pretty sure that at least one of them will know about this band. I think most of them are coming home either today or tomorrow. If none of them respond to this thread in a few days after they return, you can (or I can, if you want) bump this thread up for them to see. Fingers crossed that one of them will know something, but would be willing to bet that one of them will.

Thanks, Princess Jas - We'll see the response when the "regulars" come back from paradise.

A further question to anyone reading this thread:
Were there any other live bands that were fixtures like the one in Tomorrowland Terrace?

I don't recall many bands and their names in the Magic Kingdom. Steve Soares does have archived lists of more recent entertainment groups on his website. Here is the link to a timeline that lists past entertainment, such as shows and parades.

Thanks for the info, dzneynut, and for the web site link. I didn't find reference to the band on that site, but I've emailed the guy who runs the site; perhaps he can help. If I learn some new info, I shall post here.

    Thanks again!

I found a little information on one of the members of the band "tobasco" that played at Walt Disney World
    http://www.sugarbarnyc.com/12142005.php

heres the part that relates to WDW:
After completing High School, Kim moved north to Orlando, Florida where she supported herself and her music career by doing voice-overs. Kim eventually became a featured performer in the "Spirit of America Singers" performing in the Magic Kingdom at Disney World. Disney soon recognized her talent and featured Kim's vocals in The Rocking New Years Eve show which aired on New Years Eve of 1990. She was spotted on that show by and executive for Tokyo Disney Land who offered her the lead Rock female singer position in Tokyo.

After spending one year in Tokyo, Kim headed back to the states where she returned to Disney and became the lead vocalist for Tabasco in the Tomorrow Land Terrace and Pleasure Island Entertainment Complex. It was there that she was spotted by a producer for Star Search. She went on to win Star Search several times, & was then invited by Ed McMann to perform at Disney's MGM Studios for the weekly "Star Search Review". Finally, after being the featured performer for several hot spots in Central Florida, Kim packed up and moved to New York City where she auditioned and ultimately was hired for the world famous Café Wha, where several well known performers got their first break.

    Thanks for the add'l info

It's interesting to see where these people have ended up. I only wish they would return a live band to that stage. Sonny Eclipse is such a sad replacement.

I believe Tobasco was there from 1983 or 1984 through 1989. I remember seeing them almost every summer during that time. I wish I had pictures of them. There is a show guide from 1989 on WDW Magic from 1989 that has them listed as well as some other clasic WDW entertainment.

    D~
