There are many, many buildings on Disney property that are either storage, maintainence, etc. that are out of the public view. The 55,000+ WDW CMs do not all work in the parks.

I think it's amazing how great of a job they do hiding the buildings. I still remember the first time I ever saw an aerial shot of The Haunted Mansion at WDW. All you see is the house when you're at the park. It's a totally different picture from above. The Disney Imagineers are brilliant.

I would assume that alot of the building are storage.

Think about this... they have to store all the Christmas decorations for each park and each resort somewhere. And don't forget all the other seasonal decorations too. And all of the extra carts, displays, exhibits for Food and Wine Festival and Flower and Garden Festival.

What about the Osbourne Lights? Those alone probably take up an enormous amount of space! I know how much space my wife's Christmas lights take up so I can only imagine the Osbourne Lights!

Wouldn't it make sense to keep all of the paint and up keep supplies on property too? Don't they paint in the parks at least a couple times a week to keep it looking nice?

My head is starting to hurt when I think about all the stuff they have to store!

The Travel Channel did a show about Christmas Time at Walt Disney World and they showed a little bit of the storage facilities where they keep the Christmas decorations. They were huge!

I like the satellite picture of the subs from 20K Leagues laying around. You can clearly see what they are. It makes me wonder if they have plans to use them in the future for something.

I don't think they could ever use those subs again. One of the reasons that they got rid of that attraction (according to theory) is that they weren't easly accessible. I do miss the ride though!

I looked at it yesterday and I was in shock. I always wondered how they did it. But the same goes for all the other attractions. Its not just haunted mansion that shocked me. Just look at all the fantasyland attractions. Who would think the buildings are actually that large from the outside?!

Yeah, it's really cool! Some may say that it ruins the magic, but I think it's really neat to see how well they hide everything and just completely surround you with atmosphere.

I believe the buildings north and east of the MK are the production buildings for sets, rides, train cars, attraction components etc. Also there is a HUGE costume dry cleaning/storage facility. Each CM can take out 5 costumes at a time, each one is individualy scanned out and on loan to that CM, after they use it, they scan them back in and get 5 more. There is a huge warehouse like a walmart where CMs from every park go and get their attire.

I am not positive where the costume facility is however I do know that the buildings near MK are for set production and attraction component production. Many skilled "CM"s work here skilled in woodworking, working with metals, etc.

Sorry! I don't know how to attach the picture, but try this. Go to Google Maps and put in this: 28.422123,-81.573291. I think it shows it from farther away, but you can zoom in.

I like google earth, but I wish that the photos were newer. When You look at Downtown Disney Marketplace and move over the water, they still have mosty pictures from when Disney Institute was there. Even a few of the photos that do show Saratoga Springs, are older from when most of the resort was piles of dirt.
