Smile Thanks - here some more

    Thanks Miabear...
    here are some more.

-The telegraph you hear at the train station? It's tapping out Walt Disney's speech at Disneyland's 1954 opening in Morse Code.
-Above the Pirates of the Caribbeanride entrance find the parrot with a patch over one eye. If you are directed to the right inside to queue up for the ride, there is a window you can look in and down and see two skeletons playing chess. The board layout is supposed to show a stalemate (drawn game; going nowhere) but I couldn't see for sure in the dim light. Just before you board on the right-hand queue is a cave where you can hear someone digging (treasure?). The left queuing area has different interesting sights but is usually closed during non-busy periods.
-Heard from a friend that in Pirates of the Caribbean, Abraham Lincoln is depicted as a pirate. In the Hall of Presidents they replaced an old Abraham with a newer one. I've never seen him though. Does anyone know if this true?
-Characters each choose a child to escort into Toontown Fair at its rope drop opening.
-On the first ride of Dumbo each morning, Mickey and Minnie pick kids to ride with.
-Children often ask the Walt Disney Railroad Train conductor for the chance to announce "All Aboard".
-Here's one for grownups, specifically veterans. Ask at City Hall about participating in the evening Flag Retreat. You might also receive a Disney pin, a photograph with you in the event (additional photographs sold separately), or a certificate signed by Mickey Mouse.
-You can go into the Stave Church at Norway. Behind this is a Viking boat play area for children. Inside the Norway pavilion, you'll notice that the scenery shows buildings are built very close together. This is to represent that Scandinavian climate is such that, with certain wider building spacings, the pressure from snow accumulation would eventually push the walls in.
-The pictures on the walls inside American Adventure were all painted by various Disney artists. One picture in particular is an optical illusion. The picture hangs in the corner to the left as you first enter the rotunda. It is a picture of a B-17 bomber from back in World War II. In front of the picture is a grey strip of tiles on the floor. If you stand on the gray tiles and walk back and forth, the plane seems to swivel to follow you.
-You might notice that each wall mosaic has at least one cracked/flawed tile in it. These mosaics were created by Moroccan artisans in a unique arrangement with their government and Disney. The Moroccan people worship Allah, and believe that only Allah can create something that is "perfect," so every mosaic was purposely flawed!

I'll try to find some more...

    Finding more interesting things

I really like the additional facts you posted. Is there a book you find this in? Or is this things you have found over the years. Well, what ever it is I like it. I am hoping to get the Disney Trivia book for Christmas. I love the board but it hard to keep up with all the interesting points and ideas. I think the retreat idea would be neat and the Dumbo ride would be the coolest thing ever for my daughter.

Just some updated information. It seems that this hotel isn't quite finished (only about 3800 of the rooms finished so far) so if you want to get technical, All-Stars can still claim the title. This will most likely be changing soon!

Some things that ive noticed while i was a College Programmer in 1997 and in my yearly visits since-

The turrets of the HM are actually chess peices. rooks, bishops, pawns, the king and queen... they are all there!!!

IF you look in front of the Bathrooms in Toontown that are disguised as a gas station, you'll find the keys to those bathrooms... they are suspended inside the gas pump!

Disneynut57 talked about the rumor that ToT was hit by lightning during construction... actually it is hit ALL THE TIME!!! i was hanging out with a buddy of mine who worked at Boardwalk (hes at GrandFla now) one night. we were standing in the valet lot just before a big thondershower decided to drench us and saw it struck not once but 3 times!!!

I also saw the CastleCake struck several times, and witnessed lightning deflate one of the candy peices (it did it melt?). it was fixed the next day.

Someone was talking about parking at one of the resorts to visit the parks as being an easy and fast way to get in and out, but that you can only get a 3 hour pass from gate security... hide the parking pass and use Valet. Sure it costs money, but you can park there as long as you like, you dont feel guilty, and your car is warm/cool when you get in and you wont have to get soaked in the rain. just make sure you tip coming and going... a dollar or two will do fine.

I have many secrets to tell about backstage areas, if anyone wants to hear them, including the absolute BEST place to see MK fireworks. thanks to lou and everybody here for helping me to remember how important it was for me to help "make the Magic". boy do i miss working there, i would go back in a heartbeat if my wife would only agree to move down there!!!

    I'll start things going....

Main Street, USA is filled with little fun things... for example, pick up the antique phone in the General Store on the right hand side of the street. When you do, you can hear a "party line" conversation going on!!

(What's a party line, you ask? Well, way back when, every phone didn't have its own phone number, so many houses had to share one line. So if you picked up the phone, you could hear other conversations going on, and would just have to wait your turn before using the phone to call an operator)
what do you mean? I live in Canada

Okay.. here goes. A little preface- Most of you know that when MK was built, the first thing that they did was build a series of interconnected corridors called "Utilidors". they form the goundlevel of MK, but most folks refer to this as the "underground". this makes all of the Guest areas actually one story up, but because of clever engineering, guests never notice that they actually walk up a slight grade to get into the park. you can also notice the rise if you pay attention to the Monorail Station at the TTC. you walk up 3 ramps to get to the station there, but down only 2 at the park gates... (or is it just thay they are just a lot steeper... maybe, but there is a noticiable difference if you pay attention, none the less.)

So, anyway, I worked out of Pinocchio's Village Haus, in Fantasyland. it is at the very back of the park, and sits right above where the Utilidors see the light of day. When you walk out the back door of PVH, there is a break area at the top of a set of open air stairs. theres also a hallway that leads from there that goes behind Ariel's Grotto and enters the guest areas by the PVH bathrooms. That break area is on a balcony of sorts, and it overlooks the CM bus stop, (we had to ride a bus from our parking lot, its about as far away as the guest lot to the front gates!) the tunnel enterance, smoking break areas, recycling centers. basically you get to see everyones comings and goings virtually unnoticed it was a perfect place for a nosy person like me. anyway, just beyond this area is a stretch of trees and beyond that is the road that goes from the contemporary all the way back around to GF. (ever seen those signs by the Contemporary that say "authorised vehicles only"? thats the road). in that section of woods between the MK and that road, lies the bunker they fire the Fireworks that appear over the castle (the majority of the FW's). you cant see the bunker really well, its mostly obscurred by the trees, but at night you can see the FW's launch from the ground and they seem to burst DIRECTLY overhead. its funny to see all the CM's go about thier business as if nothing is going on! I also once got to watch the FW's from the roof of PVH, and you could see the launch bunker as well as the Castle (well, it was a Pepto-bismol birthday cake when i worked there) and the guests faces and reactions. it was kinda cool to look down over the crowds and see all those faces looking back up. (this was before the started routinely closing off Fantasyland during the FW's... back then they only closed FL if the wind was blowing a certain way.)

Cliffs notes: the balcony behind and the roof of Pinocchio's Village Haus are my favorite place to see the fireworks. ****s that i cant see them form there anymore.

    Inherit Disney World

My English teacher told me that their is a provision in Walt Disney's will stipulating that the first man to give birth will inherit Disney World. Is there any truth to this?

    "To Serve Man"

My favorite is the book lying on the right shelf of the library in the Tower of Terror. It's from the classic Twilight Zone episode, 'To Serve Man' !

I have the photo, just don't know how to post it!

These may not be the most helpful secrets but oh well...

First, try not to sit in the front of Thunder Moutain. The chain won't release the train until the last one, so you're practically down the hill before the train's let loose.

Second, the best place to watch Wishes is from the top of Splash Mountain. My last trip we just happened to be at the top of the mountain as the first firework went soaring through the sky. It left us saying "oooooh aaaaaAAAAAAAHH!!!!!!!"

That's my contributions, probably already known by everyone. I've been a silent lurker on here for a long time, but I'm making my presence known (hopefully)

My favorite place to watch Wishes from is the top of the Plaza Rose Garden... Fairly close, towards the front center of the castle, the timing (choreography of the fireworks to the music) is almost perfect, and the foreground (fantasyland) and background (behind the park) fireworks blend together nicely with the music.

That being said, just last night I found another neat place to watch from. I was standing in Fantasyland, right in front of Dumbo, and during the course of Wishes, Dumbo flew 3 more times to empty out the queue. It dawned on me then how cool it would be to ride Dumbo during Wishes and be in the air right in between the launch locations with the fireworks going off almost directly overhead. The downsides to this location is that you have to wait in line to get your turn, you have to be careful to time it right so you get on during the show, and you will only get to see about 1/5 or so of the show from your elephant before having to get off.

BTW, GGG... is that a Woozle? Haha!
