I didn't think it really ruined the magic at all. If anything I think Disney World is more fascinating now. Knowing what it actually looks like behind the scenes and how much the ordinary person can not see of the park.
I highly recommend the tour.
KttK tour is great. You learn a lot of interesting things on the tour.

We went on the Tour in May and I agree with everyone else, it was great.
We were a group of about 20 and we all had headphones. We learned a lot from the guide and there were frequent stops. We would sit and the guide would explain different things to us.
We went on the Jungle Cruise, this does not always happen, it depends upon how crowded it is and our Guide was the narrator, it was not the usualy Jungle Cruise spiel.
We did the Haunted mansion, had lunch at Columbia House and did the utilidors.
We thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a great guide.
I have never done any of the official tours, but I was part of the WDW College Program back in 1994. There we had our own tours of backstage areas through the Traditions program. I worked at the Magic Kingdom so I traveled through the utilidors every time I went to work. Learning all of the backstage stuff that creates the magic just made me appreciate and love Disney more.

This was nearly the best money I spent at WDW (Victoria & Albert tops it). The guide was outstanding and getting to journey below Main Street is something I will remember forever.
