I'm starting to wonder if I'm just a cranky old man or are these "improvements" really detriments?
From "The Imagineering Field Guide to Disneyland":

"Even a classic can be enhanced, however. The runaway success of the 2003 film Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse ot the Black Pearl - inspired by the Disneyland original - created the likelihood that an entire generation of Park visitors would first learn of the world of these pirates through the film, not the attraction. These guests would be disappointed not to encounter Captain Barbossa or Captain Jack Sparrow. So in 2006, these characters from the films were interwoven into the existing story, all the while ensuring that the spirit of the show remained in tact."

I'm 47, and I can DEFINITELY be a bit of a GOM at times, but that is there take and they're stickin' to it, and I can somewhat understand. That being said, I rode both the Disneyland and WDW versions LONG before any "enhancements" PC or otherwise, and I of course, mostly, agree with you. But there is always that little part of me that knows Walt was all about change and plusing. Now if they would just make sure all of their changes were INDEED "pluses", all would be well in my "Disney world".

FWIW I do think the changes to the Haunted Mansion are huge improvements and wonderfully executed. I wish all refurbs would be done as well as the HM.

Yea, thankfully it wasn't influenced by any "runaway success" of the movie...
Whew.....dodged that bullet!

Whadaya' mean "we"?

In a lame attempt by me to get things back on track.....sorta...
Maybe the Haunted Mansion would be better as a Haunted Castle where we could ride our "doom boaties" through the "misty moat of the macabre"?
Hey, I did preface all a' that with "lame"...!

Re: Favorite Disney Water Ride?

I'll tweak that idea a bit: how 'bout a dungeon ride UNDER the Mansion in DoomBoaties!!!
Keep the original HM upstairs and open another ride below! Whatta ya think??

Re: Favorite Disney Water Ride?

Living with the Land doesn't really qualify as a "water ride" in my opinion, but it is still one of my favorites.

Well if you are riding in a boat that is floating on water like Splash Mountain and it's a Small World it is a water ride in my book! Lovvvee Living with the Land but wish they still had the cast members giving the tour.

More like Splash Mountain HANDS UP!!(My extremely corny joke of the day.)
Splash Mountain is definitely the best water ride I have ever been on. Not only is it thrilling but I just want to live on the mountain with those little animals and sing all day. After that I would have to say It's a Small world. I love the artistic look of the ride. Yes it is a kiddy ride but it is a beautiful ride. Then I would say Jungle Cruise. As you can see I love corny jokes, and I love the feel of this ride when I go on it at night time.
