Oh me too! Sometimes I can hear the soundtracks from the ride on Mouseworld Radio and I can picture every part of that ride according to the soundtrack. What a shame it's gone.

Re: Worst WDW refurb/update or closure...

It was exactly what Walt wanted EPCOT to be.

Re: Worst WDW refurb/update or closure...

Uncle Walt still wanted it to be a living city... he wanted people to live there...

check this out...

In Walt Disney's words: "EPCOT... will take its cue from the new ideas and new technologies that are now emerging from the creative centers of American industry. It will be a community of tomorrow that will never be completed, but will always be introducing and testing and demonstrating new materials and systems. And EPCOT will always be a showcase to the world for the ingenuity and imagination of American free enterprise."
Walt Disney's original vision of EPCOT was for a model community, home to twenty thousand residents, which would be a test bed for city planning and organization. The community was to have been built in the shape of a circle, with businesses and commercial areas at its center, community buildings and schools and recreational complexes around it, and residential neighborhoods along the perimeter. Transportation would have been provided by monorails and PeopleMovers (like the one in the Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland). courtesy of wdwmagic

Re: Worst WDW refurb/update or closure...

If Walt was still alive today, do you think that this would've actually happened?

Re: Worst WDW refurb/update or closure...

probably not like this... i think he had great vision... but this might have been more than he could have accomplished even for a guy like Walt Disney... it would have taken many years to complete it the way he wanted it... i do think Epcot would have been very different... i think it would have been much closer to the original Walt vision than what we see today... but i think even Walt might have had to change his image slightly...

Re: Worst WDW refurb/update or closure...

All of these are tragic but what I miss the most is the first living seas. I enjoyed riding the hydrolators to sea base alfa. The trip on the claim mobles was very neat. Sea Base Alfa divided into sections that dealt with sea research. The last time I went it was just a big fish tank. What a differance.

Re: Worst WDW refurb/update or closure...

I picked the loss of Dreamfinder, although that might imply that the current version is the worst refurb/change to the attraction. This one is wonderful compared to the second one. The second one was just awful. It was an abomination. Just amazing that somebody got the approval to put that **** out there for guests to see. It's almost like it was intended to upset people.

Re: Worst WDW refurb/update or closure...

Enchanted Tiki Room Under New Management. I get why it's supposed to be funny, but I just felt it just came off more as disrespectful of the "old management". Probably sounded like a great idea at the time, but the execution was terrible. Not only that but the moment it debuted it was dated due to it's use of 80's songs, which is bad for a show whose theme is about getting an update.

I do also miss Timekeeper. I thought this is one of the few Eisner era shows that actually captured Walt Disney's modernist spirit. That the attraction was replaced by something not even close to the old vision of Tomorrowland (there's an oxymoron of a phrase) is a shame.

Also miss Cranium Command, though the Wonders of Life show building was painfully dated in appearance. It would have been great if they just refurbished the pavilion's interior so they could then keep the show open.

I never experienced Horizons and World of Motion, but I would have loved to see those.

Bring back the Animators - such a great way to see the art of Disney.

Re: Worst WDW refurb/update or closure...

I miss Wonders of Life as a whole, and really enjoyed The Timekeeper. Rather than get too much further into specifics, I am generally disappointed in how they have handled both Future World and Tomorrowland. It seems like either they do not care about the theme/mission/purpose of these areas, or they just cannot figure out how to maintain the continuity. Those have always been my favorite sections and the generic approach WDI takes to them annoys the **** out of me.

we talked about this alot early on... many believe this is the worst refurb... because there never was a refurb... it just sits...
