I'm not sure how it works for sure, but I always thought the bear that finishes performing walks backstage after the curtain closes, then the next bear takes his / her place. That's how we did it in my plays in high school.
In the CBJ, on those little side cabarets, there will be a character. Then the curtain closes, opens back up later and there is a different character.
How do they do that? is it on a rotating platform or something?

It's technology from the 60s; a bit outdated, but it works for the bears.
